Didnt a recent candidate for Microsoft CEO position had a plan that involved Microsoft getting rid of the whole Xbox branch?

A lot of shareholders don't like the Xbox. Steve Balmer and the higher ups didn't care.

Is it cus isnt as profitable as many think?

It isn't profitable at all. But that's not what matters to Microsoft. They're using Xbox to get themselves in every living room. Why else would they market the XBO as an all in one entertainment device?

Sigs are dumb. And so are you!

Do people not understand how businesses work? Company X cannot simply buy Company Y because it has more money in the bank/has a higher market value. -_-

You have this thing called shareholders and if the majority of the shareholders are against the purchase, you can dream about any takeover happening.

I need to stop buying games...

1) Sony wouldn't sell their games division. It's one of their few divisions that they can make a profit in consistently if they don't completely mess it up like they did with the PS3.

2) Sony has too much dead baggage to buy as a company as a whole due to operating a lot of it's business in Japan, which has a lot of pro employment laws.

3) When you buy a company you tend to see a markup on value of quite a bit. So Sony isn't as cheap as it looks.

4) The sony board will try the best they can to avoid selling to keep their jobs, therefore a "Poison pill" is sure to be injected, just like Take 2 did when EA tried to buy them. (I think it was take 2)

5) The era of hostile takeovers seems to be mostly over.

Good points... take 2 poisoning were already cited, so it must be the same you remember.

Why should they?

Sony is going the way of the Dodo. Well not that bad, but things are looking pretty bad for them right now. Sony as a whole is in a pretty bad condition. There are 2, maybe 3 divisions that could be a potential investment target.

1. Life insurances. By far Sonys best performing division.
2. Movies
(3. Gaming)

So, if MS wanted to get the no. 1 spot for market share in this gaming market no matter what, they would be there within the next 2 years. Easily.

They spent 7 billion for Skype, 5 billion for Nokia, 1 billion for Yammer in the last 2-3 years. If they invested these kind of numbers for this market, things would be over in a hearbeat. The point is, the risk that they might not see a ROI at all is pretty big, because the market is not that profitable for anyone.

Lets make a bet right now that Sony's value as a corp will rise in 2014. I'll still be here. When Sony hit rockbottom they were in a much worse position than this a couple years ago. Since Kaz has become the head of Sony things have been changing. He saved the PS3 and he'll save Sony. Sony will profit on the PS4 rather quickly. Compared to last gen they are in a position to make money hand over fist for gaming. Hopefully the drop the Vita but hey, a guy can dream can't he? Their 4K TV's will sell very well as they are considered high up there. Problem is their prices are a big problem. Much like the Vita the MP3's are a huge issue for them. They need to drop them A.S.A.P (although I haven't recently checked up on the progress of that.). Robocop and Spiderman are also going to make bank for Sony this year.

2014 is going to be a climbing process for Sony.

I am bullish for Sony was well, just in a more moderate way. I think about a lower double digit growth. 12 - 15% IMO.

Since he became CEO, Sony's stock price increased 12% or something like that and that was only due to the Yen. I am not on the "Kaz saved Sony" trip with you.

Maybe because you would preffer that he had closed it?

If it got higher because of the YEN, you should as well consider how much they also bleed and lost because of the YEN in the past discussions.

Based on style of ownership Microsoft is no better than EA or Activision. Don't wish that upon the other console makers.

Don't desire to others what you wouldn't desire for you? Sound Advice... keep MS (and other US companies) away from the Japanese devs/pubs/manufac.

True. People usually make statements like the OP When they feel threatened. Japan needs to be revitalized though.

Let's buy JRPGS and platformers on Dreamcast 2.

Japan needs a big natural (or american) disaster to awaken their fighting genes...

Well I hear Capcom is in financial trouble and that means the fighting game development might need to start soon. Namco also needs to start thinking bigger or else they'll drown like Capcom. They all need to stay clear of free to play as well this gen as that will only be profitable by only a few companies.  They need new projects that arent niche. They need more profit.  Actually you just gave me an idea. I will post it up tomorrow.

These threads have existed before, and as i have pointed out, any company that is interested in taking over sony, has to get in line behind samsung who has been eyeing sony for a while. They purchased my shares several years ago, not sure if they are still actively buying but samsung is definitely in front position.

Samsung wont buy sony either..............for many reasons already posted.

samsung is and has been trying to purchase sony for years...doesn't mean they will succeed but there effort at one point was similar to EA's attmepted take over of Take2 .
