Forums - Gaming - Seriously Why Doesn't Microsoft Just Buy Sony?

Why should they?

Sony is going the way of the Dodo. Well not that bad, but things are looking pretty bad for them right now. Sony as a whole is in a pretty bad condition. There are 2, maybe 3 divisions that could be a potential investment target.

1. Life insurances. By far Sonys best performing division.
2. Movies
(3. Gaming)

So, if MS wanted to get the no. 1 spot for market share in this gaming market no matter what, they would be there within the next 2 years. Easily.

They spent 7 billion for Skype, 5 billion for Nokia, 1 billion for Yammer in the last 2-3 years. If they invested these kind of numbers for this market, things would be over in a hearbeat. The point is, the risk that they might not see a ROI at all is pretty big, because the market is not that profitable for anyone.

Lets make a bet right now that Sony's value as a corp will rise in 2014. I'll still be here. When Sony hit rockbottom they were in a much worse position than this a couple years ago. Since Kaz has become the head of Sony things have been changing. He saved the PS3 and he'll save Sony. Sony will profit on the PS4 rather quickly. Compared to last gen they are in a position to make money hand over fist for gaming. Hopefully the drop the Vita but hey, a guy can dream can't he? Their 4K TV's will sell very well as they are considered high up there. Problem is their prices are a big problem. Much like the Vita the MP3's are a huge issue for them. They need to drop them A.S.A.P (although I haven't recently checked up on the progress of that.). Robocop and Spiderman are also going to make bank for Sony this year.

2014 is going to be a climbing process for Sony.

I am bullish for Sony was well, just in a more moderate way. I think about a lower double digit growth. 12 - 15% IMO.

Since he became CEO, Sony's stock price increased 12% or something like that and that was only due to the Yen. I am not on the "Kaz saved Sony" trip with you.

Imagine not having GamePass on your console...

They would not because sony is loosing too much money. Microsoft is making alot. Microsoft doesn't need sony because they already have better 1st party studios and 3rd party than even before.

lol I wish. Buy em and sell em piece by piece for a profit. Keep the developers and make them MS Studios. One can dream.

If PS4 beats X1 handily this gen and the rest of Sony corporation keeps bleeding money, who knows? One can dream.

Xbox: Best hardware, Game Pass best value, best BC, more 1st party genres and multiplayer titles.

Cause kids just can you can do something doe snot mean you do.

Forming a single corp out of MS and Sony and turning into a working unit would be damn near impossible, when you buy some one its cause it makes sense. This does not make sense at all.

If MS loses enough market share with the XOne, I could foresee MS buying the PS game division and patching in PS4 game support to the XOne. Would Sony be that desperate for cash though? How likely would it be if Sony slipped in to bankruptcy even amidst a PS4 renaissance?

It's more likely actually divests from Xbox in a joint venture with Comcast and/or an electronics company. MS's game division has never produced a profit for the company (if you take Skype + android royalties out of the picture)

I predict NX launches in 2017 - not 2016

If the Xbox One doesn't make enough money we might not see another Xbox. You think MS would spend billions and billions of dollars to buy Sony (because they would never sell PS by itself) to save a division that despite being around since 2001 hasn't made them so much as a dime? I don't think so.

Bet with Adamblaziken:

I bet that on launch the Nintendo Switch will have no built in in-game voice chat. He bets that it will. The winner gets six months of avatar control over the other user.

This being a toastboy thread, I've considered imperitive logic to be optional :)

A marketcap of a company doesn't equal is "selling price"

And that's gotta be a whole executive board decision. And Sony would rather go bankrupt than settling for an agreement with a non-japanese company.

buy nintendo instead

Based on style of ownership Microsoft is no better than EA or Activision. Don't wish that upon the other console makers.

Some MS's executives wants to rip off Xbox from the company... in what world they will wanto to buy another game division?

I imagine some people at Sony felt the same after the money pit that was PS3.

And its not like the PS4 has potential to make PS1 or PS2 profits.

Well that seems like the only way Microsoft is going to build up a workable IP collection. :)

I'm not sure how your response is relevant to my comment.
