Forums - Gaming - What is the Cloud (Respawn's Explanation)

So without cloud they would have just 3 players? Not evaluating Hw but cloud, please learn to read. But if I were to take your clue Ps4 is twice stronger than xbone.

No player count has nothing to do with the cloud. It is a game design just as is every other game who has done it before them.

Lets try and keep it on topic by the way.  This thread is not exactly about TitanFall.  I contributed to it as well so my fault as well.

So Internet bandwidth is a problem to host MP (something we have done for decade) but is good to makPs4Bos. Twice4x more powerfull, cXboneo explain?? Cloud also add bandwidth through wind connections?

And this proves again exclusivity is because of money not being impossible on ps4 or their servers.

If cloud is so strong why just 12 players?

If PS4 is so strong why is KZ6 only 24 players when PS3 pushed Massive Action Game and 256 players?

Oh wait, it's silly to tie player count to hardware.

So without cloud they would have just 3 players? Not evaluating Hw but cloud, please learn to read. But if I were to take your clue Ps4 is twice stronger than xbone.

So you aren't saying the cloud would free up Xbone power? Then how in the world would it magically enable more players? Please.

Yeah, twice as strong as Xbone and about 11 times weaker than PS3 by your logic :(

One thing for sure is that this game cant come soon enough. Any word on when will they start taking preorders?

Theyve been taking pre-orders on TitanFall for a while now.  It has over 100k on XBO and around 100k combined on PC/X360.

YOu can either pre-order the regular edition or a $250 edition to get a very nice Titan Statue.  High price but nice quality. One of the best game items ive seen, still too pricey for me to want it.

What is more important in a shooter is where hit detection is decided. BF3 and 4 use 'dedicated' servers but hit detection is done client side so you still get lag advantage to players, meaning you get to cover but somehow still get shot.

I always called that Backwards lag.  I had no idea what it was actually called.  CoD has that as well, but the hit detection CoD is really good actually.  (Most of the time).

I always preferred Halo servers.  Well Halo 4 had some issues, but Halo 3's was amazing.

To the three that responded on mine post about cloud what I'm questioning is Ms propaganda about Cloud making the Xbone 4x more powerfull and some users saying titanfall being possible only on Xbone because of that and then the exclusivity. Used the player count to show the game isn't that advanced and graphics haven't benefited from cloud. So in the end it could have been done on ps4 if not by money hatting. And some members here are so hypocrite that they wouldn't ever assume what they defended as gospel a month ago. And why have npcs and ai on competitive MP? I would understand filling the lobby with bots if not enough players are available or if person decide to play MP offline, but mandatory seems unnecessary.

And the other points people just ignored because they didn't had cheap answer. About PC version being equal. Do you really expect that after paying for exclusivity MS would let PC have a much superior version?

And best part is how ms cloud would be the best thing on Earth because ms invested some billions on it... How is it to see it turned into a glorified server for MP?

Question - What is the cloud used for?
Answer - 12 paragraphs on how player based servers are bad. 1 on how the cloud isn't just for servers, 3 on how the cloud will give game devs cheap dedicated servers.

That was a pretty massive bashing on player based servers tho, like seriously 1 whole generations worth of complaints rather than talk about the cloud. Oh.. there was a paragraph where he said the name of it and that it was real, but we knew that.

Why not check me out on youtube and help me on the way to 2k subs over at www.youtube.com/stormcloudlive

Its amazing how people read something from a developer and still try to downplay it.

I dont believe anybody is saying that Respawn is making it 4x powerful on XBO with the cloud.  People has said it is possible in the future but that is to be seen in the future and not now.  Cloud computing is real, just not what TitanFall is doing with the cloud.

Also nobody said anything about it only being possible on Xbox One.  However they went with Microsoft partially because Azure Servers being cheap and affordable(Respawn is a small team). I assume it then progressed and MSFT bought the rights for it to be exclusive.  In the end it was a partnership though.  Money hatting is such an annoying word.  It's a business, not a charity.  It really is no different than buying out first party studios and keeping them away from your competitors.  It gives you an advantage to sell your console, and frankly if Sony had the money to do things like this they would as well.

He says very specificly that it is more than a dedicated server.  It is such a broad term when saying we are using the cloud.  And having dedicated servers is HUGE going into the future.  Im a very competitive player online and most games do not have dedicated servers.  And a lot of servers we had last gen generally sucked. I a long with a lot of other people are very happy to hear this news.

Now im not really sure what your issue is with this but you seem to be basing your opinions off of things people arent saying.  Im sure people have said similar things in the past but my guess is it is far few and in between.

NPC's Ive explained a few days ago but they play certain roles in the multiplayer including you can hack them to fight for you with an item.  They dont count for a lot of points when killing them an you dont get kills for them as far as i know.  It will probably be very similar to the style of Dota if youve ever played that game. (One of the most popular games in 2013)

The question that comes to play is it a good or bad thing that you can buy  great cheap and affordable servers to do with what you wish without jumping through hoops?

I wish Respawn would also allow local dedicated server hosting by ISP... I know they have Azure down here in Australia but I have no clue if they're extending the service for cloud gaming and having to connect to US server would suck balls. :(
