It's basically BC.

The two main announcements today are all to push sony hardware.

That is the only reason for this.

Now, the question is.  Is it enough to pursuade the buying public to buy a sony tv, a vaio or a tablet.

THAT is what this is about.  This is the end game of what sony has been trying to do for the last 5 years.

if they succeed and people start buying sony hardware to get to this content then sony is back

if they fail... they are fucked.  Its really that simple.

eventually.  If you think this is even remotely imminent then you are naive.  They are losing money on hardware (TV's and the rest) and bleeding marketshare, this MIGHT help.

 

Well either I am naive, or you can't see and understand their vision (well my vision for their vision, for now). We'll see who will be right.

They tested with actual PS3 over MP games.

"What's neat is that multiplayer works between proper console games and cloud games. I learned that Sony was testing Journey with console players with them having no idea they were paired with cloud players."

So you can be faced some played running over GAIKAI in Journey these days.

You need to map the controller like in emulator or PC games... in Bravia TVs I think you will need a controller for the TV to play too.

This is amazing if it actually turns out to work. Way better then I ever imaged, I was thinking it would just be streaming to ps3, ps4 and maybe some games to the vita...This though could be the future of how games are sold. No barriers were you are able to play or buy any game from any tv. This is amazing I really hope it works.

This is the first step to divide the market into hardware clients and software clients.

Of course for now it will be just about PS3 games, so PS3 is the only platform that could be damaged (sales wise) by such move. But this will encourage some people (even if it's only a small niche) to stop buying consoles and to become "software-only" clients.

But there is a trick here. Some gamers will become a hybrid of these 2 type of clients I've just described. They will buy a Nintendo or an Xbox (hardware clients of either of them) and they will also buy PlayStation games (Sony's software clients). Ultimately, this 3rd niche can be as big as WiiU + XOne sales and eventually PC gamers will join too. And, since software is the profit maker for everyone now, Sony seems to be doing the right thing.

However, I'm still thinking about whether this will make them 3rd-party and lose the relevance they have at the console business in the long-term.

So...can I play PS3 games like The Last of Us without owning any Playstation devices? Or do you have to have some sort of Playstation device?

For now seems like Vita, Bravia, Xperia and Sony Tablets but it will works with any device in the future.
