Now you see, the difference here is that Square Enix them self said that statement, and I and many others agree with them. Its just the vocal minority that says otherwise.

The only good ones are VI and Tactics. All the other FFs have stupid ass annoying teenagers full of angst. How could anyone like those characters is beyond my believe. Then again, there are a lot of teenagers full of angst in this board.

Final Fantasy VI is the best one that I've played. Other than graphically, I thought FF VII was a step back in most regards. Even then, I mostly mean cut-scenes and environments, as the actual in-game character graphics for FF VII were horrible. FF VII also seems to be the origin for a lot of bad trends in RPGs after, such as artificially convoluted storylines that make very little sense and the shift to stylish fantasy over classical fantasy aesthetics.

In my opinion, FF VI and FFT are the cream of the crop, with VII through X being really good but not quite to the same level.

And no, I don't care which is the most popular or has sold the most copies. That would be like thinking the yearly CoD release is the best game because it usually makes the most money.

Most successful does not only mean sales. People like to fall on that defense but the truth of the matter is that it made the biggest impact in a positive way compared to other Final Fantasys. For instance, people still want a remake, and we have movies, animes, sequels, and prequels. Other than the fact it sold more copies than the rest, it is still in the top 10 most classic PSone download on PSN since 2009.
