It is literally the very first 4 player coop  (3D)-platformer ever made.

But I guess that doesn´t count and the Zombi mode was a more innovative addition because...reasons....

Are you f... kidding me???!!! How about this one:

And who knows... maybe this wasn't even the first.

read the underlined text again and think about how LBP is played compared to 3DW

Now to deal with you another example is this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ratchet_%26_Clank:_All_4_One

Honestly don't act like this is the first time it has been done, pretty sure more games have done platforming coop before as well.

I didn't say it was but comparing it to a game that plays like a 2d game would be wrong since 3DWorls plays in a 3D field while LBP plays in a 2D perspective with 3D

Raw invention

Lawl.  No.

Is as bad as a CoD game getting GOTY.

To be fair though, when was the last time you played an actual innovative good CoD? For me, it was Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare. While on the other hand, the last time I played a good innovative Mario game was Super Mario 3D World, which came out like, a little longer than a month ago. So I wouldn't consider it a bad thing to say the least.

Well, WaW added the zombies mode, MW2 Spec Ops missions, both ntable new modes.  What Black Ops 2 did with zombies and the campaign was pretty awesome, the change to MP was pretty great too.

Not sure what is so innovative about 3DW than what BOII did.

Don't even get me started on COD.  MW3 and BLOPS2 (and even ghosts) have HORRENDUS lag compensation methods that make the online experience the most INCONSISTENT piece of trash in the world.  In Ghosts, I can go 23-5 for a few matches, and then 7-14 the next match, all because the host changed etc.  One match, dominating.  Next match, getting inst-killed faster than even a cat could react.  Just rediculous.

Game needs dedicated servers (and an compensation system that doesn't fogive laggy players at all) ASAP.

To be fair, a lot of Nintendo's followers arent aware of what the competition does. I mean, there is no day without a "there's only fps in Ms/Sony consoles" statements

Okay how about I answer, while I agree that the other person is wrong, I would say it is most likely an example of a 3D platformer with COOP done perfectly (well they could have done online, stupid Nintendo and lack of Online)

Honestly no GOTY does gameplay innovations based on the logic you guys are putting forward.

What Super Mario 3D World does effectively is taking a perfect platformer game, combining with new power ups and mutliplayer and putting it in a neat little package that is both fun and pushing the genre forward.

But than again generationalization from the other users that act all high and mighty towards Nintendo games is fun.

Yeap NS3W its awesome, i love it. But seriously all the praise  of the game (well deserve it i must add) should be foccus on the quality of the game itself, no based on innovtion like the other guy said (lets be honest, this game has almost none) , i really hate almost every argument that i read about innovations in gaming, it feels like a comodin card used for the sole purpose of denigrate the value of good games.

I didnt make a statement about the cod guy mostly because i havent even played any cod game yet, besides all the innovation card is mostly used for N-fans

I do agree with your comment in that regards, the innovation card is really a stupid card, but it just as stupid as saying something Rehash, which the opposite community throws out.

Like I said, GOTY are rarely innovative. I would break down uncharted 2 (A game I absolutely love) , but it would be like feeding fire with fire.  As for Call of Duty, it really isn't innovative since MW, people might say it is, but it really just refinement, taking ideas that work in other games and implementing it in the game.

In the meantime, TLoU won 163 GOTY awards so far.

justice

don't mind my username, that was more than 10 years ago, I'm a different person now, amazing how people change ^_^

I find it funny how many people are opposed to this award going to this game. Why does it even matter so much to you guys? It's impossible to objectively compare certain genres against each others, so some people will pick platformers over FPS or Adventure games. It doesn't devalue the other great games, but you guys saying this game is undeserving or that there were "better games" to give the award are very clearly devaluing SM3DW and it seems simply because it's Nintendo and/or a platformer.

Nice and deserved.

My list:
1 - Ni No Kuni (Excels in gameplay, story and presentation)
2 - SM3DW (Excels in gameplay and presentation)
3 - TLOU (Excels in story and presentation, gameplay is good)
4 - ALBW (Excels in presentation, excellent gameplay and story is good)
5 - WW:HD (Can i pick a remake? XD)

Honestly, don't know why Ni No Kuni didn't got more awards.
Damn, this was an awesome game.

Probably because of the genre. How many rpg's have won GOTY awards recently? People think that shooters get all the attention and GOTY awards, but jrpgs are completely ignored by game critics. "Oh, yeah that niche thing that no one cares about"...
