I think it's obvious that the PS4 is hurting PS3 sales. And the Xbox 360 is hurting Xbox One sales. Don Mattrick suggested the latter over the summer with that infamous quote.
It makes me wonder if MS released the Xbox One this year because they knew Sony was doing it. But it was to hinder the PS4 momentum. With the 360 popularity still high, especially in the US, a price drop next year on the Xbox One and a near stop of support for the 360 over the following year could lead to higher Xbox One sales.
It's a theory, but I have to wonder, if true, if it works the way MS intends.
