It's too late to drop the Kinect, But visually Xbox One can't compete with the PS4 and that's main problem. Sony as got there shit together and MS is having a hard time transitioning from Xbox 360. Sony as really put both Nintendo and Microsoft in a very awkward position with there cost saving measure and achieving a initial price point of $399 for the PS4. The fact that Xbox One cost more then a PS4 isn't going to bod well for MS once the console shortage ends at retail.

If Xbox one sold at the same price as PS4, I would feel that Kinect 2.0 give it the value boost to make it a worthy purchase regardless of visual limitation.

I guess the next question would be: When will the Xbox One reach price parity with the PS4?

Most of you claim that I probably wont get my $349.99 for the Xbox One until 2015. While on the other hand PS4 is definitely going to sell at that price point by next Black Friday.

The visual differences are non-existant right now. In fact X1 has the best looking new exclusives with Ryse and Forza.

The fact that X1 is selling like crazy at $500 price point is a big success for Microsoft, theres no reason for a price drop in the foreseeable future.

Just look at COD - Ghost, Xbox One can't match the visual of PS4. Beside the PS4 games are coming soon.

PS4 is going to be killing the Xbox One on the sales charts, once retail is not having any shortage and have plenty of both PS4 and Xbox One units. There going to be a reason for a price drop when the Xbox One console stop selling and PS4 flying off the shelf.

Yeah....but WHEN is that going to happen is the question? As of right now, I can definitely see the PS4 above XBO but when......

Generation 8 Predictions so far.....(as of 9/2013)

Console that will sell most: Nintendo Wii U

Who will sell more consoles between Microsoft/SONY: SONY

You can turn off Kinect right? So it is a non-essential component of the XB1.
I think that MS could remove the bundled Kinect and sell XB1 cheaper than the PS4.

The XB1 has a weaker GPU & cheaper RAM after all - it should be cheaper to make.

Sony & MS have been willing to cut almost everything to cut prices on PS360 like the 12GB PS3 and 4GB XB360.  I think that right now MS will keep Kinect as a key differentiator from the PS4, but in the future if they have a strong library then they can remove Kinect.

My 8th gen collection

It doesn't look like its going to flop anytime soon so at least 2 years before the price goes down

Much of it simply comes down to Microsoft's outlook and goals.

1. Want a profit? $350 X1 at holiday 2016

2. Want market share? $350 X1 at 2015 E3

I would buy one at that price!

You won't be getting an X1 WITH Kinect 2.0 anytime soon for that price. You'll probably be able to get an X1 sans K2.0 for $399 by the time E3 rolls around or shortly thereafter as I expect M$ to announce a Kinect-less bundle around that time.

You know I was always wondering why no one ever used the dollar sign for $ony, but then I realized they have no money so it would be pointless.

So, I was just looking at pricing histories for various consoles. Here are the first two price drops for each 6th and 7th gen console:

Xbox
$300-$100 (7 months after release)
$200-$20 (19 months after release)

PS2
$300-$100 (18 months after release)
$200-$20 (30 months after release)

Gamecube
$200-$50 (7 months after release)
$150-$50 (23 months after release)

Xbox 360
$300-$20 (21 months after release)
$280-$80 (34 months after release)

PS3
$500-$100 + bigger hard drive (12 months after release)
$400-$100 + bigger hard drive (33 months after release)

Wii
$250-$50 (34 months after release)
$200-$50 (54 months after release)

The trend is that the more expensive a console is to start with, the faster you see price drops. The Original Xbox was the most expensive 6th gen console at the time it launched, it dropped $100 after 7 months, the PS3 was the most expensive 7th gen console, it dropped $100 and gained a bigger hard drive in 12 months.  The Xbox One is the most expensive console this generation. Like I said above, I expect we'll see $450 or 400 in time for Holiday 2014, $400 or $350 by Summer 2015, and $350 or $300 by Spring 2016.

Nintendo got so greedy with the wii

Bet reminder: I bet with Tboned51 that Splatoon won't reach the 1 million shipped mark by the end of 2015. I win if he loses and I lose if I lost.

2014 will see an Xbox One available for the launch price of a PS4 somewhere in the world. Not going to guarantee the US, but I'm pretty certain somewhere in Europe will see a price cut within 12 months of release.

RIP Dad 25/11/51 - 13/12/13. You will be missed but never forgotten.

Its the best selling Xbox every week so far. Don't expect a cut anytime soon.
