Forums - Nintendo Discussion - My Wii U estimation(near future, instal base, short)...

The GameCube also had far harsher direct competition right off the bat.

Halo is a legit killer app that made their launch seem a little tame by comparison and the PS2 had the mother of all 2nd years with MGS2/FFX/Devil May/GTA3 all coming in that short burst of time and all exclusive.

Also poor first impressions aren't just written off by consumers. Sega actually did do a lot of good things with the Saturn after their launch and did release some pretty killer games, but the launch was soooooo bad that the damage inflicted was irreversible. You can't just think that people are sitting there waiting for Nintendo to get their act together.

No offense eyeofcare but you're not much different from the same Nintendo apologists who through all of 2013 kept running the "Wii U sales will explode with Mario 3D World + Wind Waker HD + Wii Party + Wii Fit + Pikmin!!! Just wait and see!". That is offensive because you placing me in the same box as the rest that you don't agree with, its easy to do that and it is easy to accusse someone of being something that he in reality isn't, but I can only laugh at that with a grin. So Wii U sales din't rose after these games you say because you are wrong, Wii U sales "exploded" in Japan... We don't know about the rest and when we compared it how it sold couple of months ago, its not bad but you will force that is still bad.

You guys talked a big game and have nothing to back it up with. According to you... Of course... lol

The fact is the Wii U right now is not another GameCube ... it's selling considerably worse in North America. You are just looking at the present and the past, you don't look at the future to see things that might or will improve the sales. Gamecube had much better 3rd party support than Wii U and had very notable/big exclusives than Wii U has though some will disagree because they don't see the difference...

I don't buy the "it haz no games" excuse any more. It has several good games now, maybe the bounce shouldn't be astronomical, but surely we should be seeing a bigger bounce from a good 4 months of solid releases (Pikmin 3 to Zelda WWHD to Wii Party U to Wonderful 101 to Mario 3D World to Wii Sports Club and lots of decent multiplats and things like Just Dance 2014 and Skylanders and Sonic Lost World too). Not to mention a $50 price drop and more attractive bundles for the holidays and even a decent helping of marketing too (I saw a decent amount of Wii U commercials this November at least).  I agree with you 100%... It will have a full effect next year or to be more correct we will see it the effects of those "moves" next year in full swing.

The needle should be moving *a lot* more right now than it is. Well sales rose from catastropical Q2/Q3 and it seems that Wii U almost matched YoY in Japan last week which is a really good news. Doing that or that does not mean that the effect of that or that move will be present from the start, one step at a time. You don't want to waste all your options to have a short burst in sales, you need to stimulate the market step by step to have more consistent sales.

Imagine having all PlayStation 3 exclusives that it had to be launched on PlayStation 3's launc and then not release any exclusives after that, it would die because there is no stimulation or incentive for the consumer to buy the system or recommend it if they knew that there won't be new releases in the future...

I compared Wii U and Gamecube library in its first year and Gamecube is crushing it... Also you are wrong about Gamecube not recieving biggest third party franchises, it got them...

please show me a list of this of all these sytem sellers, in gamecube first year, remember wind waker came out in 2013 except in japan.

Luigi's Mansion, Wave Race: Blue Storm, Super Smash Bros Melee, Crazy Taxi, Star Wars Rogue Leader: Rogue Squadron II,  Animal Crossing, Extreme-G 3, James Bond 007: Agent Under Fire,  Jikkyō World Soccer 2002(now known as PES), Resident Evil(ReMake), Super Mario Sunshine, Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem, Star Fox Adventures, Phantasy Star Online Episode 1 and 2, Star Wars: The Clone Wars, Resident Evil Zero, Metroid Prime, Mortal Kombat; Deadly Alliance, James Bond 007: NightFire... Notable games from November 18 2001 to November 18 2002... This does not include all the Maddens/NFL's, Fifa's, those Ea's hockey games and that stuff...

Wii U is getting wrecked by Gamecube in library department... So are you going to be in denial?

GameCube was also dealing with far harsher competetion, it didn't get cream puff competetion like 7 and 8 year old consoles.

You can make a similar list for the Wii U honestly ... New Super Mario Bros. U (previous entry sold 27 million copies), Nintendo Land, Pikmin 3, Game & Wario, LEGO City, Super Mario 3D World, Wii Fit U (previously sold 20+ million), Wii Party U (previously sold 10+ million), Rayman Legends, Sonic Lost World, The Wonderful 101, Call of Duty: Black Ops + Ghosts (biggest third party franchise for last 5 years), Assassin's Creed III + IV (third largest 3rd party franchise), Batman: Arkham Origins, Zombi U, Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate, Splinter Cell: Blacklist, Scribblenauts Unlimited, LEGO City Undercover, Just Dance 2013/2014 (biggest casual franchise), Skylanders (biggest kids franchise), Zelda: The Wind Waker HD, Wii Sports Club (biggest game of previous generation), Resident Evil Revelations, Tekken Tag Tournament 2, Injustice: Gods Among Us, Need For Speed, LEGO Marvel Superheroes, Mario & Sonic Winter Olympics (former 8+ million seller), Dragon Quest X (Japan).

a pretty great list of games, and way more system sellers in that list then the gamecube list.

If Wii Sports/Fit/Party (sold like a combined 70+ million on the Wii) aren't system sellers anymore, then Nintendo is basically screwed anyway. It is another GameCube by default, and that's exactly what it looks like.

Casuals who bought the Wii are not coming back to buy the Wii U. Take them out of the equation and Nintendo is basically back to what they were before.

It's really not all that complicated.

Denial in this one is strong... I proved you wrong and you still force that Wii U is better than Gamecube in its first year when it comes to system sellers...

Super Smash Bros Melee is a launch title for Gamecube while Super Smash Bros U will be out more than year and a half after Wii U's launch, Wave Race: Blue Storm is a system seller also, you got Luigi's Mansion which was system seller for some, you got Crazy Taxy then Star Wars Rogue Leader: Rouge Squadron 2 that is an GC exclusive if I remember correctly and a big system seller. You have freaking Animal Crossing on Gamecube, two James Bond 007 games, two Resident Evil games in its first year and both exclusives at the peak of Resident Evil franchise! Metroid Prime at freaking launch, a huge system seller, Star Fox Adventures, another system seller... Gamecube has much better games and far more system sellers than Wii U. Stop being in denial, you are stunned about my statement... Right? Stop being in denial, Gamecube kills Wii U... It buries it. You can keep being denial, but the fact is that Gamecube is far better than Wii U when we compare it to game library, launch games, games in its first year, 3rd party support with a lot of major franchises...

Games that Wii U is getting next year will improve its sales by a lot most likely... if SSBM could sell few hunderd thousands of Gamecubes then it will be same for Super Smash Bros U. Don't underestimate the power of exclusives and specially well known franchises...

Some of these are not system sellers. Nightfire? Agent Under Fire? Mortal Kombat Deadly Alliance ( PS2 version passed 2 million while GC didn't even reach 500k)? PES? Crazy Taxi? Extreme-G 3 ( PS2  version sold almost twice btw)?

Despite what everyone else is saying, I agree with ur prediction and I think the wiiU will sell well in 2014. (Least more than everyone else expects). Although, 2 million is a bit of a stretch without any system sellers coming out in January
