Forums - General - What's your credit card and why is it best for you?

Post where you live and the credit card you own. Also post the rewards you have with that card, why is it best for you?

Are you with Airmiles, Aeroplan, Avion etc?

I've owned a credit card for the last 3 years now and I'm planning on getting a new one, I just owned a basic card to build credit and I've done that and now I want some rewards from my purchases. I'm currently looking into the CIBC Aerogold Visa card, I'm from Canada.

But seriously, i won't get a credit card because i don't think they are worth it. It's so easy to get into debt with that bit of plastic. I would rather use my own money thanks.

Not like it matters now, but i'm from London, England.

I always pay with everything through my debit card, I never have cash so it only makes sense to have a card that gives me free stuff for using it and then pay it off. As long as your not doing any excessive online purchases and just use it for the necessities, gas, food and bills you should be fine.

I can understand that but if i don't need one now, then i will likely never need one. I also just can't trust them because these companies profit from it so much, even more so if you get into debt. I think it's just so wrong. As you may borrow £100 for example, but with the interest rate you would have to pay £130. It's just so dodgy and wrong. Obviously, we should spend in moderation but most people seem to go crazy on these things. I know it's there fault, but it's just crazy.

I will just keep to what money i have though as it's easier to keep track of. It's what i'm used to.

I got myself one when I traveled to the US and I agree with many that owning one of them definitely makes it much easier there.
I don't get any rewards when using the card, but I don't have to pay any fees either and even got 40€ for ordering the card.
It's Barclaycard New Visa btw.

American Express SkyMiles Gold Card.

I use it for business a great deal as I travel for work and build up miles and is far more convenient. I get people who fear plastic due to lack of self control, but I have never missed a payment and since it is spending money I would have to anyways I just get the bonus of a free trip every to somewhere in the US.

I always pay with credit card (Visa gold preferred), and have my recurring bills automatically put on the credit card. I always pay it off every month, easy with electronic banking. I more then make up the fees in points. Couple months ago I printed out $1000 in vouchers to buy a new laptop, for a couple years of using a credit card. I still have another $550 credit in points, could get an XBox One for free, maybe next year.
I only use my debit card to get cash nowadays, which I hardly use either anymore. Coffee money.

It's an easy choice here, a debit card costs money too to use with only a few free debits per month, but no benefits for using it.

Problem with that is... if you don't get a credit card, you don't build up a positive credit hisotry.  Which if you don't have a credit history you may as well have a shitty credit history.

Then your stuck unable to get a house loan at a good rate... if at all.

I have one credit card that i use for bigger purchases, and i pay it off in full at the end of the month.

Very true, I never used a credit card before I bought my first house. Result, no credit rating and the bank required a 30% down payment to get a mortgage. That's quite a lot for your first house purchase... Result, I didn't have a car until I was 31.
