technically this is wrong because multiplat games are tracked individually on this website. However there is numerous multiplat games like GTA and CoD for example selling around 30 million copies.

He provided a combined table.

He should probably put that in the op to make it more accurate and also change the title because it is false.

As for logic i didnt read the comments but i can imagine people mentioning dumb stuff like bundles or how VGC numbers are wrong.

Nintendo had like +10 devices already. Sony had 5 and MS had 2. Also look at total software sales don't just look at the top games. Pretty sure the PS2 sold the most software followed by the PS1. Also since Nintendo becoming irrelevant is usually attributed to smartphone sales you shouldn't ignore those. Like some already said big companies could fall into irrelevancy pretty quickly. I don't think Nintendo will be irrelevant anytime soon though.

I clearly do not understand why people keep saying Nintendo should go 3rd party, its down right stupid.

Nintendo makes the best games by miles and their games are system sellers. Alot of haters out there but Nintendo is doing it right.

Why would a company that has sold over 40 millions 3ds portable consoles this generation and is dominating the market go 3rd party???? They are crushing the competition and the Wii U is no slouch either and will pick up momentum. Wii U takes alot of flak from people who never tried but as soon as they play it, they realize what an amazing console it is and that the tabel control is actually a great idea. Too many bandwagon jumpers out there.

P.S trophies and achievements nearly killed gaming

selectively, its a very impressive stat.
Then you open your eyes and realise its just glorifying the 80/20 rule.

A table showing the number of financially viable games on each system would indicate that playstation has always been a better option for most publishers and consequently gamers....and the difference would be greater than 15.

As for software, take away bundled games and pokemon and the lists is starting to look very different.

What logic is there in doing that? Is a bundled sale not a legitimate software sale? More laughably, the sale of a Pokemon game is somehow illegitimate?

That said, Nintendo without bundles and Pokemon is still less handicapped than, say, Microsoft without bundles and Halo. Bye-bye, Kinect Adventures! Or Sony without bundles and Gran Turismo... lol, their five best-selling titles.

I didnt say it was illegitimate.

And Halo and Gran Turismo were bundled NOWHERE NEAR as much as dozens of those Wii games that either came with an extra controller or a complete console with no additional charge. Wii Sports was bundled with EVERY Wii sold outside of Japan. If Sony and MS bundled their games with every PS360 sold, you can bet that list would have been filled with dozens of Sony and Microsoft titles

I wasn't comparing Halo and GT to bundled games. I was substituting them for Pokemon, which you seem to be inclined to disregard for no reason in particular. Kinect Adventures is the bundled game Microsoft would lose.

In other words, take away Pokemon and Nintendo still has Mario and all of its spinoffs, Zelda, Smash. Bros, Animal Crossing, the Wii series, and so on. Take away Halo, what does Microsoft have left? ...Fable? Likewise, Sony's strongest franchise after GT is probably Uncharted. How does that compare with Mario sales-wise? Or even Zelda, Animal Crossing, Smash. Bros? Not too favorably, I think.

"Heavily bundled" games are a funny thing. You know, if the bundle didn't sell, the game would stop being bundled. It's not Nintendo's fault 20 million people weren't interested in the inFamous Collection PS3 Bundle. If there had been enough demand for that bundle, Sony would have sold as many as they could manufacture. People weren't interested in the Nintendo Land bundle, and Nintendo dropped it. Lookit that, it didn't get a free ride to 30 million by nature of being "heavily bundled" by Nintendo.

My God! This thread is awesome!
Why do people say Nintendo should get out of the home console market, when their last gen console sold 100M units? OH, because it doesn't count! Then, how come they made a bigger profit with a 22m fanbase Vs 150m fanbase, yet they should leave the market? (correct me if I'm wrong) But Sony sold better! And this happened too in the 5th gen. In the 4th gen, Nitendo dominated, and also in the 3rd gen, when they started and SAVED gaming! And don't get me started in the Handheld market... But they should leave, instead of Sony, which is selling buildings rather than building new ones, or Microsoft, which put DRM on the table...
All in all, all 3 should stay in the market. There's no reason to hate Nintendo or Sony (I still can't forgive M$).

Bet with bluedawgs: I say Switch will outsell PS4 in 2018, he says PS4 will outsell Switch. He's now permabanned, but the bet will remain in my sig.

PlayStation hardware sells more on average than any other brand. 330 million consoles divided on 5 systems (not counting PS4 yet) is about 66 million sales per hardware.

Nintendo's 650 million sales divided by 14 systems equals about 46 million sales per hardware. So, Nintendo's ''success'' is similar to Wii U's current success - they've just been in the industry longer, and thats it.

As for software, take away bundled games and pokemon and the lists is starting to look very different.

For Nintendo is 14 systems because you are even separating ds from ds lite.

And for sony you don't take in consideration psp go ? What about pocket station ? :p That's two more systems to your equation. Also the first ps3 with ps2 playback and the other one without must be counted as separated then.

Double standards everywhere lol

I think you're the one ignoring GameWatch. I didnt separate DS and DS lite, i didnt even separate GameBoy and GameBoy colour despite being different systems

PSP Go is new PSP model, its not a new handheld, pocketstation is an accessory, and its pretty dumb that you even mentioned it. There's a difference between hardware redesign as well as different models and completly new hardware system.

The straws, are you grasping them?

I completely agree with you.  Sony and Microsoft are for the "big boys" i guess who like to get ripped off. They clearly only care penny pinching ever cent out of gamers. Sony many not be quite as bad as MS but they are getting there.  The Microtransactions on the PS4 and Xbox1 are ridicules and anyone who supports this should be ashamed of themselves.  EA releasing season passes and map packs for BF4 1 month after release.....WTF???  If i just payed $60 + for a game I do not expect to pay anymore after that.  I hope steam machine wipes the floor with Sony and MS while Nintendo will remain afloat because they clearly are the only company who takes care of the gamers.

Sony + MS = Microtransactions, DLC, season passes, yearly fees and so on.

Nintendo = Buy a game and play the shit out of it with no extra fees

This "bundled-not bundled' discussion is tottally pointless.

Bundled games are legit games sold. Period. People always have the option of buying them not bundled, if they wanted.

The new word for that is The Dudebro. Use it while it doesn't get banned.
