Even with the Wii itself, many people bought it JUST for Wii Sports.  Think about that.  They were willing to pay 250 dollars for the Wii Sports experince.  After all, many did let the system collect dust afterwards, or sold them off.

Yeah, im gonna call major bullshit on this one. People did not pay 250$ just to experience motion controlls demo

A friend of mine did. And then I bought the Wii from him like 2 months after because he bought Zelda for gamecube instead and just had interest in Wii Sports.

And the girlfriend of a friend of mine also has a Wii only with Wii Sports and Wii Fit.

So you've only proven that Nintendo SW sells good, how does that end the argument of people wanting Nintendo to go 3rd party and sell those SW on bigger platforms like the 165 million HD twin install base or the much bigger mobile platforms? Wii U sells terrible, 3DS tracks lower than DS and probably has its peak year already. Yet lets forget about the HW problem and focus on the good times when all was well with the world.

Take out the RoD'd consoles and watch that number coming down.

PS3 sold terrible, compared to PS2.

Vita, incredibly, tracks even lower than PSP, which got butt rapped by DS.

So by your rreasoning, Sony should go 3rd party before Nintendo =)

But no, let's ignore the present and remind the good old times when Sony had dominant platforms.

Im certanly going to take an ancedotal, totally not made up, 'evidence' from a guy who compared video game sales to the situation of multiple guys nailing your girlfriend as a credible information

1. GTA V has sold over 27 million units, and hence should be #10. It has been reported to have sold over 29 million in October though by Take-Two themselves.
2. COD: MW3 sold over 30 million units and should be #6
3. COD: BO2 sold over 23 million units and should be #12
4. COD: BO has also sold better than some of these games.
5. Wii Sports was heavily bundled.

You miss the point. There are more PS360s owners than Wii or Wii U owners. Look at the SW sold on those consoles vs Nintendo consoles, in the past year we get record breaking releases like TLOU and GTA V. Ninty SW sells good, thats the only thing you've proven. HW is not gonna do as good as Wii and DS. Both Wii U and 3DS will sell considerably less. Thats why people claim that Ninty should go 3rd party, not because of their past achievements, if you wanna live in the past thats your problem, Ninty isnt selling consoles in the past, they're selling in the present and the future doesnt look good, even for 3DS if its peaked already.

Whats bad about Nintendo going 3rd party anyway? Many HW problems people have with Nintendo will be solved. Online infrastructure will be better etc.

We can't use the RoD'd logic seeing as it doesn't make sense and no one knows an actual number.

Just because the PS3 didn't sell like the PS2 doesn't mean it is doing terrible. Heck EVERYTHING is doing terrible compared to the PS2 so that is kind of a silly point. Sony did terrible in losing all of that market share. But not just becuase the PS3 didn't sell like the PS2.

Vita...yeah can't argue that one and it is sad really seeing as the Vita is such a good system....just like the Wii U.

And lastly not trying to be funny or be rude towards you but if we go by the present then well......the Wii U is doing terrible compared to the Wii the software of the Wii U is also not selling well at all. The Wii has pretty much lost the huge lead that it had and most thought that Sony/MS would never even come close to it. The PS3 is STILL selling very well, the PS4 and XB1 both are off to INCREDIBLE starts. And lastly the PS3 and 360 both DOMINATE the software charts.

I am still sad that you never responded to the post I made some pages back though.

Really, Mario Kart and the Wheel????  REALLY!  What else did people use that wheel for?  The Wii Fit balance board?  What else did they use that for?  In fact, I would argue it becomes MORE impressive when you realize what people were willing to pay for said bundle.

So are we gonna pretend Mario Kart was the only game on Wii that uses Motion control Wheel?

Imagine if Uncharted 4 came out, but in order to get the uber-sweet graphics you needed a $40 dongle that attached to your PS4.  So now the game is $100.  If that game sold well, would you argue it was "bundled"?  If the game sold poorly, would you use that as your excuse?

...wat?

Even with the Wii itself, many people bought it JUST for Wii Sports.  Think about that.  They were willing to pay 250 dollars for the Wii Sports experince.  After all, many did let the system collect dust afterwards, or sold them off.

Another point, if bundling a game is guaranteed sales, why don't Sony and Microsoft use it?  Oh wait, they do.

No one bundles their sales anywhere near to the amount Nintendo does. Not even close

The bottom line is, in the past, Nintendo has been a SW giant.  Sony and Microsoft have their share of amazing IPs too.  Another fact is that Wii U is not selling as well as Nintendo hoped, but there is still hope for them to turn it around (see PS3 late sales as an example).

They are a SW giant, no one is disputing that, but the way OP presented that was wrong, innacurate and stupid.

And you dont honestly think Wii U is gonna go anywhere near PS3's sales, do you

My point is, the fact that you're moving software bundled with and Item does not make the sale of the SW any less impressive, especially if you're effectively charging for the bundled item. Wii Fit is the perfect example.

Not sure what you don't get about my UC4 example.  Let's say that EVERY copy of Uncharted 4 also comes with a gun harness that connects to the PS4 controller.  Are you going to argue that UC4 only sold well because people were getting that gun harness too?  Does that make it clearer?  Afterall, they could use it to play other shooting games...

And when you say that no one bundles nearly as much as Nintendo... didn't really answer the question.  The questions was, why NOT?  Why doesn't Sony bundle more if they can get more sales from it?

The OP should have included multiplat games that were released at the same time and the same EXACT game.  Examples, GTA5, CODs.  That seems fair if we are ONLY comparing SW.  But bundled SW should stay.  So I agree it might have been innacuarate, but stipid might be a bit harsh (expecially since 90% of the posts here are Nintendo flame lol).

I don't think Wii U will hit PS3 sales.  No.  But I would have said the same thing about the PS3 back then too.  With another price cut and MK8, anything is possible.  I would like to see the Wii U do better/well, it's good for the industry as a whole.

Actually, yes it does. This is logic 101. If people bought Wii for a Super Mario Galaxy game, they're gonna get Wii Sports regardless if they wanted it or not, yet it still counts as a sale for  the game despite people not having the desire to have it in the first place .Its almost not even a bundle because it doesnt add any extra cost to the hardware purcahse like real bundles do, Wii Sports is more of an add on than an extra game really

Yes I would, unless that gun can only be used on UC4

And when you say that no one bundles nearly as much as Nintendo... didn't really answer the question.  The questions was, why NOT?  Why doesn't Sony bundle more if they can get more sales from it?

That I do not know, you have to ask Yushida or Kaz for that. I still dont see how this question refutes the fact that that list is made up of mostly extremly bundled games.  Nintendo doest even actually bundle Wii Sports and SMB 1. They came with no extra cost with the system. Its basically a free game. So congrats Nintendo, 2 games you gave away for free are among the flawed top 15 list.

No, because we cannot the measure the actual demand those games had. I bought a Wii for DKR and i had absolutely no interest in playing Wii Sports, yet it still counted as a sale for Wii Sports, despite the customer having no desire for it.

I don't think Wii U will hit PS3 sales.  No.  But I would have said the same thing about the PS3 back then too.  With another price cut and MK8, anything is possible.  I would like to see the Wii U do better/well, it's good for the industry as a whole.

No, one game will not make such a difference not even close. PS3 has an actuall 3rd party that keep making games for it constantly while Wii U has to rely mostly on Nintendo.

No one knows, but you can assume something in the ballpark of dozen of millions.

The failure rate during the first year was as high as 40% (some reported cases were even more). Xbox sits at 80 million nowadays, I think it's safe to say about 15~20 million consoles went down the toilet and got replaced by microsoft, but it magically counts as "shipped".
