Forums - Sony - To ALL those who say GT6 flopped....

Not 8 years ago, 3 years ago. GT5 was released November 2010.

For a playstation Living room console , The ps3 was the 1st living room playstation with an extensive online consumer digital store online for a playstation living room console, to sell consumer's digital software direct to them. Is the GT5 stopped selling to the consumer yet? is that not the point, how many digital copys sell to add to the instal base?

that's the main point, just because the sales are lower up front for physical copy''s does not mean that it cannot ousell it further down the line or what if it GT6 digital sale through copy's could infact be trending higher than GT5's digital copy's was?.

A flop? I very much doubt it.

I don't think there is any doubt that GT6 had a much lower production cost than GT5. Besides all the reused assets and components, the dramatically shorter development time alone probably equates to millions of dollars less.

I'm pretty sure Sony had lower expectations when they decided to go for a second PS3 Gran Turismo, as well. I think they were willing to trade lower total sales for the chance to extend the life of the PS3 and make some profit off a game where much of the work was already done.

As far as this being an indicator for the health of the series, isn't that a bit silly? It's a title that isn't all that different from its predecessor that has been released after the generation has ended--using the sales of GT6 to draw conclusions about the franchise itself is nonsensical.

Really, when we start talking about "flop" for a game that will ultimately sell millions of units despite all the mitigating factors, it's really just so much fan noise.

One other thing I'd like to point out, for those talking about installed base, that number is NOT the total units sold. Installed base is the number of console in active use. The longer a generation lasts, the more the installed base percentage is effected by dead units. That's why some analysts think the PS3 installed base passed the 360's installed base a long time ago.

No it's not. Pretty funny that this happened after Mario though, gave a few something to think about :D

I think Sony will release a PS4 version of GT6 next holiday so they can say the game sold 10 million + copies.

PS4's Gaikai on track for 2014

What's the chances of GT6 on GaiKai?

with Gaikai GT6 , could go to devices that's not even a playstation!

Lol oh how quickly people were proven wrong about this game. If this is considered a flop, nearly every game bombed this year.

Historically all second iterations of GT on the same console have sold less than the first and this will be no different. It is unfair to hold it at a higher standard.

First of all, I'm comparing one week of data against one week of data so it's a fair comparison.

Second, I never said GT6 was a flop, I said it was a disappointment.

But let's go ahead and factor in digital sales. How many copies do you think GT6 sold digitally?

we do not know what the sales data is!, is that not the point, trying to account for sale through data without including digital copys for attachment rates cannot really be done, because they cannot be accounted for. I mean is that one of the reason's Microsoft got so slammed by some gamer's about Always online being needed to connect once every 24 hours? the point is today we have smartphones and Tablets all connected to wifi, 3g /4G or cdma Networks, so online stores are more common now then they were 8 or 9 year's ago, so saying that in 1 weeks worth of data can net you really a clear sales data trends of a software iP is not very accurate, being that the sales market dynamic is not the same as it was back than so sales data through digital is much larger than it was 8 years ago, how many would buy digital day date week one, i mean if its not that large offing PSN games day in date with retail, means that there must be some number's generated for that online sale through if its being day and date released now.

Give me a ballpark figure on digital what you think digital sales brought in. I'm not denying digital sales are stronger than they used to be and are still on the rise but I'm interested in how big you think they are so how many copies do you think GT6 sold digitally during the first week?

Signature goes here!

To be as simple as I can: console retail AAA games is ALWAYS higher then digital. Always. No matter how optomistic your estimate is, it is still lower then GT5 opening week.

Just. Deal. With. It.

And you are implying that those sale through digital copy's do not count to the attachment rate! you cannot have it both way's, you cannot call out software for being a disapointment for sales through data when the environment that the retail chain has changed from than to now, there is more stores that they are selling the software on, that we cannot track! if we are going week one, which this data is, how many digital copys are being sold?

http://www.vgchartz.com/article/250088/sony-uncharted-franchise-has-sold-1732-million-units/

That doesn't change that digital is still lower on some level to retail, which in total, is less then GT5.

Seriously.....

GT6 follows GT5, a game that disappointed many, or that did not deliver in some key aspects, most notably online. I was fully expecting then what GT6 has now as far as online goes.
Still, it did deliver many things and it kept evolving and was getting better over the years.
GT6 is far better I hear, and the online is or will be much better than GT5 again I hear. Big change. Plus there's better and different physics. Both of these are there to provide an opportunity for a real online ecosystem of racers, racing and racing series - I hope. (Ethomaz, is it so?)
Then there's GT Academy - the reason why the fw decline in sales from GT5 to GT6 is far smaller in the US than in the EU. It's catching on and becoming more and more known. It will push the sales slowly, I think to ok numbers, while in the meantime sweetening the general gamer's attitude towards GT again, in preparation for the obligatorily fantastic GT7. (Am I setting myself up for disappointment?)
Don't forget, Polyphony is in this for the long game and the game changing game.
So a flop? If there are 20% digital sales and the Japan numbers are good, probably not at all.
I'm curios to see an reaction interview with someone in charge on GTPlanet.

Edit - Afterthought: 240k in USA, 200k in Japan and only 250k in Europe??!! - does not compute...(and I don't mean that it doesn't add up to 850k. I mean Europe seams way too low.)

I cannot determine that when , Like before we really will not know until Sony has Number's stated, and for the simple fact that GaiKai will run PS3 Games on the PS4 and the PSVita, than top in Tablets How would you track digital sales, say in a ball park figure, maybe in a ballpark figure of say 18,000 copy's world wide on PSN only for the week. just because its 18,000 this week does not mean we would know what they are next week, they could be more or less.
