Because it only sold 100K units. New consoles always sell out before Christmas, and the only logical reason for this that I can think of is very limited stock.
If both consoles had shipped 500K units, I'm sure both would have sold out just the same.
But, there is more demand for PS4, so I'm assuming Sony will push as many shipments as it can into North America, moreso than Microsoft with the Xbox One.
Also, you're discounting selling power of PS4 exclusives.
