What I mean by destrying mythos is that it goes aganist what Giant monster  movies are usually used for. Giant monster comes to town destroys everything! Humans can do nothing but then they hatch a plan to stop the monster and done.

Pacific RIm went aganist that and had the humans fight back and win aganist muiltiple monsters! The only way they can make any hoplessness was by making the monsters a collective hive and then make monsters that are apperently very strong. Pacific Rim acted more like a superhero movie moreso then a gaint monster film. Sure it had giant monsters but the main charectaers acted like superheros. Just like in The Avengers had all the heros killing baddies that came from a portal  that Loki opened Pacific Rim basically did that part of the movie. It just did it with giant monsters.  That is something you really do not see in the older giant monster films.

But hey if that's what you like then the people who made this did their job. However to people like me who wants a movie more like the classics, this was a dissappointment. Something like Cloverfield was more inline with what I want and was done in an interesting way.

The 1998 movie, soul? From the personality-free Iguana to the horrible characters and acting, to the derivative action scenes, "soul" is the last thing I'd say it had.

And this new one looks much more serious and dark than your average Hollywood film; see the smashed train with bodies sprawled around it? You just don't see that in "typical" blockbusters; despite all the destruction, you never see the human cost. Here, you do.

last time i watched it was over maybe 10 years ago, i was around 10 then. but still, it stuck with me. this just seems like... another micheal bay movie. 

i like to pride my self and say that i have a good taste in movies and like to watch quality stuff that others dont usually like or watch. The Sunset limted, amadeus, magnolia, Kung Pow: enter the fist, shutter island and others. this just seems like the kind of movie i tend to aviod like batman and transformers. 

Fair enough.

But I would still contend that stuff like seeing the bodies of dead civilians already puts it well out of Michael Bay territory. ;)

I think you guys mean the 1998 "Godzilla" American film. As a MOVIE, on it's own, it was an okay summer blockbuster. But as a GODZILLA movie, it was an abomination, specifically because Sony did not give a single shit about the property. Toho sent them specific documents telling them how Godzilla should look and act. They purposefully "lost" (see: ignored) that, and made a movie about a giant fucking iguana, that is literally nothing more than just a giant iguana, who gets killed by missiles at the end of the picture, a picture that so obviously didn't care about the source material it's not funny.

Godzilla 2000, on the other hand, was Toho's response to that crapfest, and it actually got distrubuted in American theaters (the only real Godzilla film I've ever been able to see in theaters). It was the start of their "Millenium" series, and while it wasn't amazing, it was rather good, especially compared to the American film.
