Just like in The Avengers had all the heros killing baddies that came from a portal that Loki opened Pacific Rim basically did that part of the movie. It just did it with giant monsters. That is something you really do not see in the older giant monster films. But hey if that's what you like then the people who made this did their job. However to people like me who wants a movie more like the classics, this was a dissappointment. Something like Cloverfield was more inline with what I want and was done in an interesting way. |
If humans had fought back and won many times just with tanks and jets, I'd see it that way too, but the Jaegers were like kaiju themselves, putting the film in line with classic kaiju/toksatsu/sentai films like Ultraman.
I really liked Cloverfield, its right up there with the likes of Gamera 3, Godzilla x Mothra x King Ghidorah: All-out attack, Pacific Rim, and Godzilla vs Destoroyah on my favourite monster movies list.
