After beeing burned by Pacific Rim, i dont think i care for this type of movie anymore.

Pacific  Rim is a craapy giant monster movie. (And I seen a good amount).( A good gaint monster movie is to see the orginal godzilla/American version, and  Rodan. There are others but I haven't seen any american one like Beast of 20,000 fanthoms.) Pacific Rim went against the general gaint monster mythos

Anyway I can't wait for this film! Godzilla is one of my favorite monsters ever. I hope this movie is sucessful and we get a sequal/remake called King Kong vs. Godzilla and then maybe King Ghidora next.

and in the end humankind wins with some kind of weapon the japanese godzilla wouldn't even have laughed at. somehow i'm sceptical...

After the 1998 catastrophe I don't blame you, but these guys seem to have a much better handle on what Godzilla is about.

let's hope your right.

What the fuck are a bunch of soldiers going to do against a monster that isn't even phased by missiles and bombs? lol

I will go see this, but being a lifelong Godzilla fan, and remembering how much of a colossal letdown the LAST "American Godzilla" film was.....well let's just say I'm not holding my breath for it to be "awesome". It does look like they're taking it more seriously this time around, but that doesn't guarantee it's going to be good. We'll just have to see, I suppose.

Personally, I still want Toho to get off their asses and make another actual "suitmation" Kaiju movie. The special effects tech was so good for the "millenium series", and they've had 10 years to improve even more. This American film might surprise me and wind up being great. But that won't change the fact that "guy in suit" Kaiju live action will always trump CGI.

As someone who owns all 28 Godzilla films and another dozen or so assorted giant monster movies like Gamera, I loved Pacific Rim.

I don't see how it goes against the mythos at all; its kaiju were city-destroying behemoths all but impervious to conventional weaponry, and controlled by alien invaders; classic giant monster material.

I actually liked the 2000 Godzilla movie. It wasn't bad I thought, but i'm excited to see this one as well.

I did too! Never understood all the hate. Anyway, this looked pretty neat!

I think you guys mean the 1998 "Godzilla" American film. As a MOVIE, on it's own, it was an okay summer blockbuster. But as a GODZILLA movie, it was an abomination, specifically because Sony did not give a single shit about the property. Toho sent them specific documents telling them how Godzilla should look and act. They purposefully "lost" (see: ignored) that, and made a movie about a giant fucking iguana, that is literally nothing more than just a giant iguana, who gets killed by missiles at the end of the picture, a picture that so obviously didn't care about the source material it's not funny.

Godzilla 2000, on the other hand, was Toho's response to that crapfest, and it actually got distrubuted in American theaters (the only real Godzilla film I've ever been able to see in theaters). It was the start of their "Millenium" series, and while it wasn't amazing, it was rather good, especially compared to the American film.

DAT ROAR! Its freakin awesome.

check this out.

Current, Official Godzilla 2014 Plot Synopsis:

An epic rebirth to Toho's iconic Godzilla, this spectacular adventure pits the world's most famous monster against malevolent creatures who, bolstered by humanity's scientific arrogance, threaten our very existence.

So it seems Godzilla is fighting against other monsters in this one.

What I mean by destrying mythos is that it goes aganist what Giant monster  movies are usually used for. Giant monster comes to town destroys everything! Humans can do nothing but then they hatch a plan to stop the monster and done.

Pacific RIm went aganist that and had the humans fight back and win aganist muiltiple monsters! The only way they can make any hoplessness was by making the monsters a collective hive and then make monsters that are apperently very strong. Pacific Rim acted more like a superhero movie moreso then a gaint monster film. Sure it had giant monsters but the main charectaers acted like superheros. Just like in The Avengers had all the heros killing baddies that came from a portal  that Loki opened Pacific Rim basically did that part of the movie. It just did it with giant monsters.  That is something you really do not see in the older giant monster films.

But hey if that's what you like then the people who made this did their job. However to people like me who wants a movie more like the classics, this was a dissappointment. Something like Cloverfield was more inline with what I want and was done in an interesting way.

THIS SUCKS! first of all, how about they show the fucking thing (godzilla) already? second of all this just looks like another typical hollywood movie. soldiers, explosions, more explosions and a woman crying, people jumping from high places, more soldiers and even more explosions.

the godzilla movie that released in 1998 looks so much better than this one, that one just had so much soul in the movie, this well one well, it looks just like how i described it above.
