Isn't it obvious?
HDS.
I can see it now.
I make videos that are sometimes funny I think?

E3 2016 at earliest would be my guess. 2014/2015 will likely focus a lot on games for both platforms with 2014 being heavy Wii U.
2016 would be the beginning of a ramp up for new hardware if its coming. Unless there is some market related push to do so sooner, like a new touch competitor or something.
Using the "DS" moniker in the name doesn't make much sense because I doubt the next Nintendo handheld will be dual screen.
Especially if this is a portable tablet that can also stream wirelessly to the TV ... that should be a completely new brand (DS/Wii are tired by now).
I wonder if it will have HD and keep 3D...

Yes. Why in the world would they reveal a successor that early? |
Ask Konami and EA about the HD Collection of Metal Gear Solid and the Trilogy of Mass Effect and how that helped MetalGearSolid 3DS and MassEffect 3 WiiU :)

Ill give you the Wii, but is the DS brand tired? I don't think so, I think they can continue to build on the DS branding they have worked so hard to establish. The "DS" name is very powerful these days. Regardless if it's a 3DS or DS, you will find people referring to it as a DS. No longer do people think they are "gameboy's", but now they are DS'. That's assuming the basic tech is the same, but maybe they will drastically change the next handheld.

I'm starting to lean towards chatter in 2015, reveal in 16.
This is how I would make it:
-Ditch the second screen, I would keep a single 720p capacitive screen.
-Give it the same button layout as the 3DS, only add the second circle pad.
-For graphics, a Tegra 5 processor or equivalnet (so Ps3/360 level)
-It would be able to play games on TV using a docking station: it would use wireless controller and wiimotes for remote play.
-2 version: the standard with a 4" screen and an XL with a 7" screen. Optionally a 3D version or a TV version (like PsVita TV).
-Release date 2017, price about 199$
-Name: "GameboyHD" or simply "Gameboy"

Also, if they do go the route of tablet, it would seem very unlikely it would be a traditional tablet. Nintendo will do something unique and distinctive.

I have reservations about nintendo ditching the second screen, but it is possible. They are going to do their design will the "kid" market in mind. I'm not sure if they will follow a similar paradigm of the Sony portables. They would definitely have to carve out a distinctive hardware look.
