Forums - Nintendo - Speculation of Nintendo's next handheld

Inspired by the title of another thread present on VG chartz, it got me thinking about the real question concerning 3DS successor.  I know many people are living in fantasy world dreaming of Nintendo's death in the hardware market, but the only successor we should be thinking about at the moment is the 3DS'.

I know it hasn't been out too long, but as we have seen multiple handhelds can exist in the market from Ninty.  So what do you guys think Nintendo's next approach will be and do you think a reveal in 2015 at e3 is out of the question?

Yes. Why in the world would they reveal a successor that early?

Sigs are dumb. And so are you!

Damn... I thought about making one of these threads last night, but fell asleep.
I want: upgraded specs (expected) around the Vita level, backwards compatibility, keep the same dual screen, but in HD. Most importantly, I'd like a synergy with their home consoles. I mean I can play, let's call it 4DS games on their next home console. A redesigned UI, and connected accounts as well.

I would love Pokemon Yellow remake as a launch, but that's reaching.

HDS wont come out intill 2017/2018. Why reveal something so early, it'll kill some 3DS sales

I'm expecting them to venture into tablet territory in some way. Maybe phones if they go crazy.

Is it early? I don't think so, reveal in 15, full reveal with launch lineup in 16 e3 and releases around Christmas (hypothetical).

I think we'll see the 3DS successor sooner than people think.

This is the peak 3DS year IMO, it'll probably sell around 16-17 million for the fiscal year, next year it will drop back down to 13-14 million.

A far cry from the DS' hey day where it was crushing 30 million per fiscal year at its peak.

If Nintendo rides the 3DS too long it will start to look badly dated next to smartphones and cheap $99 tablets by 2015, I think Nintendo knows this.

I could see a Nintendo "tablet" for late 2015 to spring 2016.

I expect them to announce a successor at least in 2018. Based on how well it's selling, no reason to drop support that early.

we should be getting conncected accounts this month, but do you think Nintendo stays with the Dual Screen approach or changes it up.  I mean, I don't see how they will detour from touch screen, obviously making it multitouch seem logical; but is it possible they throw in a game changer?
