How has he set African Americans back decades? I don't understand the logic behind what you're saying. Are you saying most Americans are so ignorant and stupid so as to equate any failures under the Obama administration to mean all possible future African American Presidents will be the same?

By that logic it means the American people won't vote anymore White Presidents due to (take your pick).

As for Obama being such a terrible President...I think this is greatly exaggerated by certain sectors of the political spectrum. First of all he has an uphill struggle against an uncompromising Republican House that would rather take the US down with them than help the majority of the people which is what Obama in his own limited way was trying to do, second of all he inherited one of the worst performing economy the US has ever been in and had to take drastic measures to rescue it and third he inherited two wars. That's a very difficult job for any president and I doubt McCain or Romney could have done any better. Well...with McCain maybe you'd have been in another couple of wars by now.

What exactly makes him specifically set African Americans back any amount of years? He isn't representing black people as a whole, he is representing America. He can't do anything if it isn't being approved. Its not like people ask questions like "Did multiple school shootings, George W. Bush lying about weapons of mass destruction, and dumb rednecks set Caucasian people back 100 years?". It's an ignorant subject in general, especially if you don't know how the US government works.

Now Obama is not perfect in any way, and i don't agree with him in a lot of things, but anything is better than a republican and Obama is better than most democrats.

Really?  Policy wise i'd say he's been more or less exactly like George W. Bush... but with healthcare.

I mean... if you need any further proof... just look at the huff po leak.

If anything, Obama shows that the Democrats really need their own tea party movement.  Both parties are far from what they claim to be.

I sincerely believe that this country at its core is center-right. I don't think people would embrace a liberal tea party like movement like the Tea Party movement was embraced. People still use the term "socialist" as an insult. Hell people use the word "liberal" as an insult. A moderate republican beats a democrat anyday -- the problem is that there aren't too many moderate republicans left.

Eh.  I wouldn't call corporate cronism and all the invasion of privacy right wing.  At least not in the US poltiical dynamic.

As an African American, no. He has not set us 50 years back. But thank you for your concern, OP.

However George Bush wasn't particularly conservative at all. He started a new prescription drug benefit, drug the Federal government more into education with No Child Left Behind and people should remember that they call them NEO-con's because the actions were new to claimed conservatives. Nation-building, being the world's cop and Pax Americana were all American Left policies.

And here's proof that Republicans caused the 2007 housing crash:

I don't this country is core right. I think some people like to talk a good game there but then they want their Social Security, Medicare to pay for a hip replacement and then to kick the can down the road with regard to paying for it.

The American political class and those it represents have moved decidedly LEFT. The Democrats that were kicked out become new Republicans and they have combined with Goldwater/Libertarian Republicans to stir the pot occasionally. The Democrats who remained have become hard core-leftists.

As an example Al Gore Sr. was a Dixiecrat that opposed the Civil Rights Bill and owned oil interests. Al Gore Jr and his wife were Southern Christians who started out as pro-life. Tipper Gore in particular started the PMRC, the group that labels music recordings as explicit. This was because back then Democrats like her were busy declaring that Hollywood was sick and filling kids heads with smut, violence and devil worship.

President Obama is the first "northern intellectual liberal" to be elected president in ages. Before that the Democrats could only elect southern populists. (LBJ, Carter, Clinton) The country has moved.

The democrats know better than that. Getting too bogged down by the left wing is what made the 1980s into a lost decade for the party, and so the party's left has been kept suppressed almost permanently since.

I mean, we've seen what the Tea Party's actually done to the Republicans. Middle America has said Hell No, and will continue to do so until the GOP puts a lid on the wingnuts.

I mean...  I guess... but what's the point.  Obama is campaigning around the world against the bank regulations he said would of saved us from the GFC.

I mean, shit, if the GFC showed anything it was that the Democrats are even more in wallstreet's pockets then the Republicans.

Plus i think the hard left is an easier sell then the hard right at the moment.

I mean sure, it lost them the 80's... but look at the circumstances.  In the 80's we were facing down Communist Russia... and their nukes.

Compaired to now where I'd argue the US hasn't been so Dovish since Pre-WW2 Roosevelt, where he had to lie about trying to get us involved in WW2 just to keep his job.

I mean, compare the Tea Party to Occupy Wallstreet.

OWS was mostly just met with disinterest.

I'd argue the message doesn't even have to be much different from the current Democratic message.  They just need to call out their higher ups out.

Which is argueably close to already happening.  What with harry reid getting bullied into voting for the "Nuclaer option" veto resolution and hard campaign against Larry Summers when he was all but set.

So because Trayvon skipped school he was a criminal? Because Trayvon acted up in school he was a criminal? Because Trayvon was suspended from school he was a criminal? Because Trayvon Smoked weed he was a criminal? That's my point, how was he a criminal if he hadn't been convicted of anything yet? Majority of teen boys are smoking weed, skipping school, being suspended does that make them a criminal? no, that's what some teen boys are doing.

How was Trayvon acting like a criminal? walking in the rain with a hoodie minding his business is acting like a criminal? HIs female friend even said he was on the phone with her and said "This creepy *** C****** is following me". So how in the world was he acting like a criminal?

This is my point, when black teen boys aren't prosecuted harshly its because people like you think "they'll be labeled a racist by blacks". But what about the countless instances where white teen boys aren't prosecuted harshly?

So because he drew "WTF" on the door that makes him a criminal? I know a girl who drew male genetalia on desks and she was suspended, does that make her a criminal? no, kids do stupid stuff, they're kids.

Black teen boys and white teen boys who commit the same offense aren't judged the same and that's a FACT!

Yes because Trayvon Martin skipped school he is a criminal. Truancy is a crime. He isn't a criminal because he was suspended from school, rather the suspension became the slap on the wrist for things that should have been escalated to criminal proceedings. However he tagged the school, got caught with drugs and clearly got caught with the proceeds from a theft. Those are all crimes. The school didn't refer it to law enforcment. The should have done so and saved the boy from himself.

First the majority of teen boys are not smoking pot. Surveys show use at about 20%. That said a crime is a crime. On top of that these issues are compounded  that is the real problem. A small problem becomes a big problem when not dealt with when it is small. What percentage of the population do you think is not just smoking pot but walking around with stolen jewely, tagging, and engaging in assault? That percentage has to be very low.

You quote Martin and show his own racism. The guy who got busted with the pot baggie, who allegedly assaulted a bus driver, who got caught with jewely and was caught on video tagging school property wasn't the bad guy. He knew he could never be the bad guy because all he has to do is scream racism and all is well. Martin can even ENGAGE in racism by calling someone a racial slur and it isn't really a slur because, well it's the source that determines such things, not the actual actions right? As for other people and if they are prosecuted, I know plenty of people who end up on the hook for smaller stuff. It is national policy to try to lower black criminal and prosecution rates because they are so high. However they aren't high because people are racist. They are high because people are engaging in those actions and folks like yourself just say "everyone is doing it." Everyone isn't doing it and in most other communities that stuff is hit square on the head and dealt with pretty strongly. There are people who slip through the cracks and who screw off with a bunch of high risk behaviors. When they end up dead it isn't a national cause.

Under Obama....

Black poverty UP

Black unemployement UP

Black teen unemployment UP

Black labor force participation DOWN

Black to White income gap UP

Black family dissolution UP

Black wealth and percentage of overall share DOWN

Black poverty rate under Ronald Reagan was down to 11%. Under Obama it is over 25%.

However up is down and down is up when someone can scream racism and turn the brain off.

Also I've seen those videos and that set up a half dozen times. First the black kids are smaller. Two of them are barely bigger than the woman that talks to them for four minutes. They use kids, not adults. You look at the white kids and they are bigger and taller. Second they use as a measurement calls to the police but then they intervene on the man who is confronting them before he calls the police.

However all that said, all that happened in supposed horrible racist America is that some people witnessing a crime called more on it in once instance than another. They didn't lynch them, shoot them, beat them, or even confront them. No pick up trucks with shotgun racks rolled up where a bunch of white people, certain they are superior and others inferior decided they would let them know now how things are "around these parts."

Are we to believe, and would you seriously suggest that if the reverse happened that no one would approach or confront the white kids in the black neighborhood? They never run the situation in reverse. They don't take two cars into a black neighborhood and then show a bunch of smaller sized white kids clowning, tagging and beating on the car. Also the black kids answered outright that it wasn't their car. The white kids reflected the question back and didn't answer the question. The expert even mentions that part of the issue is that the kids are clearly from a different neighborhood. That isn't racism. Racism is believing another race INFERIOR. It might be a bit of stereotyping but in the absence of information everyone relies on sterotyping a bit. This is true of women who don't want to walk to a car alone in the dark. It doesn't mean they hate men. It doesn't mean they think men inferior. It means they are stereotyping in the absence of known information. Now the people asked the kids the question and the black kids said it wasn't their car. Point blank that is coping to a crime and that means people call. I would bet money that many more people in the reverse situation would be willing to take the law into their own hands in the black neighborhood. Because of their own racism, I'd even bet that in the black neighborhood, they'd declare that since the law doesn't prosecute white people (your own claim as well) that they might as well get justice themselves and on their own terms.

No justice, no peace right?

So because Trayvon skipped school, he is a criminal? I bet you 50% of the users on this board have skipped school, does that make us criminals? NO!

Only 20% of kids are smoking pot? Where did you get these statistics from? When is the last time you have been to a highschool? Over 70% of highschool kids are experimenting with drugs and that's a FACT!!!! (I'm assuming you're a 40 year old Fox News watcher, because who uses the word pot?) lol

So because he got caught with weed he is a criminal? I'm sure a few posters in here have been caught with weed, does that make them criminals? No!

He knew he could never be the bad guy because he could just scream racism? If that's the case then why are so many african americans incarcerated if they can just scream "Racism"? See your point makes absolutely zero sense.

Black kids don't go tagging in black neighberhoods, the difference between black neighberhoods and white neighberhoods is in black neighberhoods they treat everyone the same regardless of color. If you come tagging in a black neighberhood, they will beat you within an inch of your life no matter what color you are, look at Chicago or Detroit if you need evidence.

"IT's not racism it might be a little stereotyping" That is my FREAKING point, thank you for proving my point. I never said it was racism, I said blacks are stereotyped unfairly and you just proved my point.

Look at all the black stereotypes, they are all negative, only positives are (Big wang,Can dance, Play sports well). Now look at all the white stereotypes, they are all positive only negatives are the reverse of the black positives.

"It might be a little stereotyping but in the abscence of information everyone relies on stereotyping a bit" ? No not everyone relies on stereotyping, only close minded morons rely on stereotyping because in their messed up world it's easier to judge someone on the color of their skin instead of get to know them.

Does skipping school make you a criminal. Breaking any law makes one a criminal. It is the risk to return ratio. Does society bother to prosecute and is the occasional problem enough to treat like a serious breach of the law. I'm sure most people on the forums have sped as well. I got my facts from here. It shows a high of 22.5% for seniors and it is lower for other years of high school. The percentage using daily was pretty low, 6.5%. I consider what I said, 20% of high schoolers to be the fair average of the four years. It is not anywhere near what you said of course.

In many states, weed is a crime. Just because someone doesn't charge or prosecute doesn't mean it isn't a crime and the person doing it, a criminal.

Why are so many African-Americans incarcerated if they can get off by screaming racism? They do get off but when the rate of crime is so much higher, they get put away more. For example the murder rate is around 800% higher. If they get locked away 400% more that difference between the crime and time is partially the system not wanting to get accused of racism.

You yell about stereotypes but then state a stereotype, that everyone who tags in a black neighborhood will get beat. You complain about negative steretypes but then promote them. (Blacks are prone to violence, don't mess with them.)

You then talk about stereotyping unfairly. A stereotype is a mental shortcut that while not always true, has some truth to it. You just said beatdowns occur regularly in black neighborhoods. That is a stereotype. Is it an unfair one? No because that does happen. In the case of Martin, was it unfair to say that how he acted indicated a desire for and penchant for criminality? It isn't unfair. All the others you hit on, I'm not sure how people view those as negatives. Now if you started talking about where Chris Rock said you should hide your money, that stereotype is negative.

Now as for stereotyping, yes everyone relies on it and everyone does it a bit because no one has perfect knowledge of every situation. If you walk up and hit on a girl, you are assuming that about 95% of the time she wants a guy rather than a girl. The 5% of the time you are wrong isn't hate. Everyone has some ignorance about other groups and they fill in that ignorance with stereotyping. Get 30 black kids into a room and ask them what Japanese kids act like and do and you are going to here plenty of stereotyping.

Now moving it back to the actual thread topic, I'd say the financial loss under Obama for African-American in particular, but the country as a whole are huge. His policies are basically wealth grabs from young to old. He is mandating health young people buy expensive insurance so the rates don't go up for older people who need lots of heatlh care. In addition the black teen unemployment rate was about 29% when President Obama took office and in the middle of a massive recession. It is now between 41-43% in a recovery. That is a massive setback. Why are all the results negative if his policies are so great? Why is this the worst recovery from a recession ever?
