It's pretty clear that they were aiming the show at a different audience. There wasn't anything shown, that wasn't (basically) already known or seen prior to the event. A few milliseconds during a few trailers were new, but overall it was garbage, aimed at a different crowd. This Video Game Awards (now X) was not aimed at the core gamer. It had no worthwhile reveals or surprises, it had meaningless drivel (like the youtube crap) and wreaked of low-quality. Joe McHale is usually pretty funny, and I thought was a guy who actually liked games. I wonder if he actually felt the same way we did about the new format, and wasn't aware of how it would be until he was already locked in. Meaning the only way he could show is hatred for the format, was to screw up the co-host position.
That's what I'm hoping anyway. I just can't believe that this is how this event was intended to go. Co-Host who appeared to care less about games, no big surprises, no real world premiers worth having, bad rapper spots, and self-proclaimed youtube freaks....None of that says Video Game Awards to me. Wonder if that's why the big devs (with real reveals) pulled out at the last minute. Didn't want to be associated with it, and didn't want to waste their world premiers on this trash.
I stopped watching. For future reference guys.....the best way you can show that this isn't something we care for as gamers, is to not watch. The viewership is what they're after. I know it's hard to turn it off, when it's such a train-wreck...But you have to. It's your only way of saying, "No, this is not ok." I stopped watching when I heard it announced that this mess was the highest viewership that the show had ever had, and was trending at the top of social media charts. Speak your mind, by not tuning in....or at the very least, turn it off, don't just keep watching for the sake of watching.
Sorry guys, I was really looking forward to this too, bummed me out pretty hard.
