Forums - Nintendo - Nintendo is completely out of touch with reality.

It's ok OP. I know that feel. They are clueless, still blind by the Wii sucess, and that's sad.
This is not about how much the others show, or if it's a lame award. This is about Nintendo and a poorly presentation. This is just a missed oportunity, and a good one to shine above the others with something as simple as a new Smash trailer.

When viewers dropped like rock after a hour I'm sure nintendo was thinking we could made our sales double.

you say miss opportunity but every opportunity doesn't reflect in the right decision. This show didn't even have Sony. What does that tell you? Nobody Internet gamers cared about the show and most left less than half way through.

Let's be honest here. We are discussing about this topic when we could been both saying "did you see that that awesome Smash/X/Bayonetta trailer?" "Yeah, and everyone is talking about it!"

Would that hurt Nintendo to do? No

Would they be able to do another trailer in their next ND or simply point at the previously showed trailer? Yes

Do they need as much press attention as they can get? Yes

Is this free marketing? Yes

Do I give a damn if Sony and MS care for that thing of award and have something to show? No

Idk which is worse.
The fact that they showed DKC, or the fact that DKC was the best of the show.

think man i totally agree. This is totally Microsoft sponsored and People only talk about Nintendo.

But GTA seriously?? i findMario should have won, but i guess thats not possible if the game doesnt run on xbox

Vgx was horrible and was on Internet. Marketing can not be replaced by an Internet award show that drop in viewer half way through.

Bingo. I was in the "Nintendo should not show DK" crowd, but that was with me assuming that everyone else was bringing their A game. They really weren't. I read some forum reactions elsewhere, and they weren't favorable. What would have been bad had Nintendo embarrassed themselves compared to others, and they didn't.

VGX is so irrelevent and crap I really don't get the big deal what gets shown there, honestly if I was a pub/dev I would stay clear, I don't even feel like it's free advertising unless it's something that realllllly appeals to that frat boy audience.

The thing is that Nintendo had a free shot to wow everyone. Irrelevant or not, the show was a good place to mind fuck everyone especially when everyone was there to see you anyway.

When I am a child, creating, I am not creating a game. I am in the game. The game is not for children, it is for me. It is for an adult who still has a character of a child."

Donkey kong was 2 most tweeted thing on twitter for like 3 hours. Donkey kong is coming in 2 months. Nintendo got the most this show could have gave and it didn't have much to based on trend of viewership. I would argue many came just see what nintendo had (nintendo fans) and left after donkey kong. The drop after donkey kong showed the  Internet award show  is made of people who already know about all three consoles and came for what they wanted and left. Nintendo needs to properly market the games they have now because people buy consoles for games they can play.

btw what press attention? Like show it on there website where you can already get info on all nintendo news? Seem circular and pointless. If you know gamespot than you know of nintendo if don't of gamespot than how will they know of new by nintendo. So, press attention point is pointless it assumes it gives nintendo to someone who never seem them or is not up to date. Gamespot users are up to date.

This discussion is borderline retarded. Nintendo is the only company out there doing what they do right now. Everyone else is doing games so similar that they all fill the same exact niches on the other two consoles where talking heads argue over which one displays more anti-aliased blood splatter and at what resolution.

Let's complain more about Donkey Kong and get back to arguing whether Call of Duty: Ghosts, Killzone or Battlefield 4 has the most realistic bullet holes.

Well said.

I think showing anything too big would've wasted the reveal really, the awards aren't big enough.

i don´t know, Joel said that liked Tropical Freeze, and he will get that for his kids.

I'm tired .... I really am. I love their games, but they keep letting me down. A pity I find their games to be crack like.

This is me. I love them, but they only hurt me.

With just a little bit of application, Nintendo could be everything I wanted them to be.

No offense, but how exactly has Nintendo ever "hurt" you? They put out great game after great game, and have done so on every console they've ever put out not named Virtual Boy. Wii alone had 3 Mario games, 2 Zeldas, 2 Metroids (plus Trilogy), a Paper Mario, a Fire Emblem, 2 Excite racers, a Punch Out, a Battalion Wars, the return of DKC, 2 Kirby games (plus the collection), a console Wario Land,  a Sin & Punishment sequel, and a couple of the best rpgs of this past gen (Xenoblade and The Last Story). GBA was packed with great games. DS was packed with great games. 3DS has been packed with great games.

And now Wii U, slower than it should but still happening, is gradually rolling out, guess what, more great games. I fail to see anything in that that could "hurt", "betray" or whatever other negative connetation you want to add to any of their fans. I mean you know what? I waited years for Pikmin 3, I was SUPER stoked for it, in fact you could argue that I bought a Wii U at launch in anticipation of it coming out. And when it did release, quite frankly, while it's a good game, I did find it to be a disappointment, for my own reasons. But just because I was let down by that game, doesn't mean I somehow take it as a personal affront from Nintendo to me. I'm not "hurt" that they didn't make the game the way I wanted it to be. They've made plenty of games I haven't thought too much of over the years, but I don't take it personally. I just simply don't care for those specific games. BUT, the fact of the matter is, they've given me far too many great games over the decades of my life, to act all bitter when the occasional "dud" that I don't personally care for comes along. And they are bound to continue putting out at least some games that I enjoy, every single console generation.

And that's all I really ask of any company. In fact I wish more of the old companies I USED to love (Capcom, Konami, Square, etc), would put out games I actually enjoy anymore. Fact is, they don't, and that sucks.

Why would they want to be in touch with reality? That means they would have to recognize that the WiiU is a disaster and their image is in desperate need of change. Let them live in their fantasy world that Donkey Kong is the thing people really wanted to see tonight.

Honestly I don't think most people realize how big of a failure the Wii U is gonna end up as.  I still see people saying it will sell 30 million or blah blah blah, but here are the facts:

-The Wii U is trending at around half the weekly sales the Gamecube had

-The Gamecube launced 1.5 years after the PS2

-The Gamecube sold 22 million...

Now let those 3 things sink in people.  The Wii U is lucky to reack 15 million.

They want to provide games without "wasting" alot of money on the small userbase so its somewhat understandable to bring out 2D mario before 3D mario and 2D DK before Retro brings out a real 3D game.

Also it will just make the next retro game better because Retro already had some time to get used to the WiiU with DK.

Yes It is somewhat stupid and sad because the world clearly does not need MORE 2D platformers. (Most are boring because they lack the freshness of Mario powerups. And the world design even tho NSMB completely fails to recapture the SMB3/W feeling because it has super simple and boring level desgin with no exploration aspect...)

The biggest problem I see is that Wiiu had a lost year DK should have come out in april or may 2013 same with ZeldaWW HD.
Nintendo clearly needs more manpower because most of their teams obviously focused on 3DS with the bigger install base (which again is understandable)
