Personally I think Nintendo would be better off becoming a third party developer for home consoles. Wii was an anomaly, now they are back to the sales which can be expected from Nintendo.

If they would make third party games, they would not have to worry about lackluster HW sales and they would get more potential customers by bringing their games to PS4/Xbox One. Maybe even PS3/360 if they wanted to.

They don't have to, why is it so hard to understand that they don't lack money and their entry price barrier is so much lower? You are fucking expecting everybody to shell out 400-500+ USD with no fucking games whereas you can get a Wii U + 4 or more games for the same price lol.

Mind your language, young man. That is not appropriate and definitely not necessary.

They could easily be more profitable if they were out of the hardware business.

hahahaha, check the forum rules before you are trying to call language, not in titles and no personal insults, if I want to type fuck, I will type fuck all day for as long as it's not spam, you can deal with it or not reply.

In the short run yes, it's called the CoD effect, but CoD will not be big in 25 years, software quality will go down a lot, that's just what happens by looking at video gaming history.

If Knack can outsell Mario 3D World, it shows that Nintendo aren't reaching a wide enough audience to maximise revenue at the moment.

What? Stop with the drugs, son.

On topic: Nintendo leaving console-business would mean, that many gamers would leave console-space or give up on gaming altogether and switch to other forms of entertainment. That happened also with the leave of Sega. Some Sega-fans left gaming for good.

It would even worse in the case of Nintendo, because no console-maker with a family-friendly image is left. Many parents would stop buying consoles as gifts for their children, reducing the base of potential gamers even more. With an amount Nintendo-core-fans and children out of the picture, main Nintendo-IPs like Super Mario and Mario Kart would suffer a lot in sales. You can take a look. Games for this group sell best on Nintendo-platforms. Even on the failing Wiiu sells Rayman Legend more than on the 20 times bigger install base of PS3 or XBOX360. Super Mario, mario Kart would sell way less on PS4 or XBOX One. Zelda might survive the transfer, even Sony- or MS-fans want to play this game. Most of the other franchises would suffer losses, as the target-group is leaving gaming.

Going thirdparty is destructive for developers like Nintendo or Sega that have been so intertwined with their own consoles. Splitting their fans among several consoles will only be a disservice towards their fans.

I would, however, prefer if Nintendo and Sega went FIRST-party, and became part of one console developer. Then they can get the most out of their talents and and also not split the fanbase.

The problem is Nintendo have always made better games than SEGA so hellz no. I really really miss old school Phantasy Star though.

Well, that´s a whole other debate, but you are dead wrong (just look at how long us fans kept the Dreamcast afloat AFTER its discontinuation). Besides, what does that have to do with this issue?

Yeah it's pretty cool since I'm still checking out the Indie games for my DC haha.

Anyways, I'm reading your post as:
They can shift people inbetween SEGA and Nintendo around within the companies, and I say, don't, because don't fix what isn't broken, SEGA will drag down Nintendo's quality.

Forum rules have nothing to do with poor behaviour. Feel free to keep up your act, just don't expect any respect coming back to you.

Never did, internet respect is about as relevant as a tiny piece of dump you just took in the toilet, I have never cared for anybody to like me on the interwebz and I never will, what I can say though, is that your standards ain't the gold standard, and nobody really gives a shit about it.

lower entry price point is good for a lot of people, and they are the only company that can carry their own consoles with their own games, I honestly haven't seen another console maker able to do that.

It is untrue.

GC/N64/WiiU proved you're wrong, nintendo cant really carry their own consoles with their own games.

The lower price is the only thing, but it should be much lower...

Do you think anybody would have gotten nearly where Nintendo did with that level of third party support, though?

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

Cant wait till Uncharted and Last of Us goes third party also.

He's not on drugs, he's just cherrypicking one particular instance to justify his argument.

Im not against it if its the only option but i think nintendo can still get one more shot at the home console buisness. They first gotta give wii u more time. It could find a market as the second console for allot of people but thats gonna take more time. In the mean time they need to work on a high tech system where there next handheld system works like the game pad and there console can slightly surpass ps4 and xbox 1 and cost around $400. They can sale the handheld seperatly like allways. That way niether system will be too expensive. If the wii u does turn into a complete flop they can have this new system ready to go. If it doesnt do well then nintendo can tip there caps to sony and ms and give up the home console.

3rd party is very important, that's how Nintendo got to where it is in the first place after the video game crash, what's amazing to me is that even after they lost so much 3rd party support, they are still posting profits year after year for so many years, and yes, the handhelds help, but I doubt they are actually loosing money on the home console space in the long run. TBH I don't know how they are doing it, I just find it impressive in their current state. Like EA said, when the Wii U sales more, they will come back again, it's just business, I have just never seen a 1st party pushing out so many quality games all the time that have long legs compared to the rest so I'm making that bold statement.
