I don't know a single person who has an HDReady TV.

"Many places in the world TrueHD is regarded as a luxury commodity"

That's just BS. Here in Africa there aren't even any HDReady TVs for sale anymore. Perhaps you should realise that it's not 2009 anymore.

The terminology was HDReady, FullHD, UltraHD. There actually isn't anything TrueHD anywhere. My mistake:p

HDTV sales peaked in 2009, and this is why manufacturers are so busy right now introducing UltraHD. For actual numbers and statistics they can be bought at http://www.instat.com/index.html if you're superinterested:p

Ummmm... I realized that and treated "TrueHD" as "FullHD" in each of your statements. How did you not see this from my comment? Guess I shouldn't be surprised since i'm a rocket scientist and nobody else is. How is that comment of yours relevant at all (note: I've been messing up you're and your for the better part of a decade despite spending all my time on message boards (until i get banned for a few months) But hey! Nobody's perfect, right? Yeah, i know; off-topic and all that, but here's what it comes down to:

you: most people don't have Full HDTV's (There are 6 billion people on Earth)

me: yes they do

you: HDTVs (in which the vast majority sold was HDReady) peaked in 2009 and UHD is being introduced now cause the people who bought HDReady didn't care about upgrading to FullHD, 3DTV, SmartTV. Here's a website.

Sometimes I'm a bit of a dick and I'm in that mood now so sorry :-|

You are perfectly right in everything. I would, however, like to note...and...blablablah

Boring conversation, anyway. I'll just call it a day and go back to playing Super Mario 3D World in god awful 720p with my god awful HDReady TV which i dont care to upgrade, 1) cause i'm poor, 2) dont see much difference cause of poor eyesight, 3) cheap, 4) live in 3rd world country.

Thank you for your time.

meh, I tried to new patch and it just looks like a very, very impressive ps3 title, although I guess that is to be expected since AC4 is cross gen. I was noticing a lack of substantial anti-aliasing.

And that's the only thing I need is *this*. I don't need this or this. Just this PS4... And this gaming PC. - The PS4 and the Gaming PC and that's all I need... And this Xbox 360. - The PS4, the Gaming PC, and the Xbox 360, and that's all I need... And these PS3's. - The PS4, and these PS3's, and the Gaming PC, and the Xbox 360... And this Nintendo DS. - The PS4, this Xbox 360, and the Gaming PC, and the PS3's, and that's all *I* need. And that's *all* I need too. I don't need one other thing, not one... I need this. - The Gaming PC and PS4, and Xbox 360, and thePS3's . Well what are you looking at? What do you think I'm some kind of a jerk or something! - And this. That's all I need.

Obligatory dick measuring Gaming Laptop Specs: Sager NP8270-GTX: 17.3" FULL HD (1920X1080) LED Matte LC, nVIDIA GeForce GTX 780M, Intel Core i7-4700MQ, 16GB (2x8GB) DDR3, 750GB SATA II 3GB/s 7,200 RPM Hard Drive

I guess it really depends on screen size as well. I have yet to experience 1080p so I definitel think it will be much crisper although I'm not someone who think this stuff matters that much, I don't even notice when something is not HD on TV until I'm told so.

The best way to view a content is in its native resolution or in a display that has the capacity of display 4 more (or multiples of 4) pixels. An example, 720p looks better in a 1440p screen than in a 1080p one because of this rule.

This makes me wonder if the XBone would look better if you had a 1440p screen as long as the upscaler could handle it.

Does anybody know if the hardware upscaler can handle that? (It's standard AMD)

On the other hand, we have Ryse using custom upscaler in software because it looks much better than the generic HW upscaler,

but I rather suspect there would be major performance issues for doing that in software, not to mention the game would need specific coding to allow that.

But it still seems relevant for anybody with a XBone and 1440p screen if they can use 1440p output (if MS release firmware update enabling that)...

i can't tell the difference!

...because i have never seen it in 720p

“It appeared that there had even been demonstrations to thank Big Brother for raising the chocolate ration to twenty grams a week. And only yesterday, he reflected, it had been announced that the ration was to be reduced to twenty grams a week. Was it possible that they could swallow that, after only twenty-four hours? Yes, they swallowed it.”

It isn't that people can't tell the difference, it's that some don't want to see a difference.

PS4 version of Assassin's Creed IV has received a 1080p patch and holy shit... it matters. The graphics are so crisp and detailed I can't help but think how much better this is than 720p presentation.

How come people can't notice this difference? It's absurdly better than 720p.

If 1080p mattered so much, then why are you gaming on consoles?

The short summary of this thread:

A: Resolution matters! Look how cool <insert game> looks when in 1080p!

B: If you like resolution so much why don't you game on a PC?

A: Never said resolution is all that matters! It's just, like you know, really really important, but not like ultimately important. And PC is expensive, not cheap like console.

B: I prefer art style to resolution.

A: Yeah like whatever man, same game with same art style still looks better in 1080p.

B: Perhaps, but I don't care enough about resolution for it to influence my buying decision. I want Kinect/tablet controller, and that is more important to me.

A: Deluded man! Resolution matters! Look how cool <insert game> looks when in 1080p!

I played AC4 prior to 1080 patch and it look noticeably better now.

End of 2009 Predictions (Set, January 1st 2009)

Wii- 72 million   3rd Year Peak, better slate of releases

360- 37 million   Should trend down slightly after 3rd year peak

PS3- 29 million  Sales should pick up next year, 3rd year peak and price cut

I don't see a big difference in this comparison video though: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zsQJVxaFfQw

And the graphics look 'ok' certainly not mind-blowing.

Videos are a terrible way to compare because any edge given by the 1080p version is lost due to compression.

The real deal is seeing the game in action. Trust me I am truly blown away.

I won't try to defend the res-difference but picture quality also *greatly* depends on the screen one is using. Especially given that many TVs are so bad callibrated...
