Forums - Gaming - Has anyone here played their XOne/PS4 offline for more than 24h?

There where people a few weeks ago that didn´t belive snap, suspend, voice comands and TV integration would work on the Xbox One.

People belived Xbox had serious problems with manufecture and would not be able to ship the same number of units.

And so on, and so forth.

Well, those are just fanboys/haters hoping for Microsoft to fail big time and creating or jumping on any stupid rumors of the mighty Internet when it fits their agenda... They are clowns :)

maybe those people are not on this site because they dont have internet?

I stood against it but not because I dont have internet, but because not everyone in the world has.

Also lets say you temporarily lost your internet connection for a few days, then youre stuck with a box that cant do anything after 24 hours....a box for which you paid £350-£430, and £50 for the games (£60 if you bought them off PSN or XBL). It reminds you that no matter how much you spend, you dont own it which would be stupid.

Anyway, theres not one single advantage to it for the consumer so why would anyone support it unless they work for MS?

That's exactly it. It does carry no advantages at all to the consumer and would not be required at all for any of the games to function. It was 100% anti-consumer from the start and they tried to sugar coat it was family sharing which was never even gone into detail. Their original vision had no rentals, no resale (unless permitted by publishers) unless brought to specific retail chains. No searching for the best possible return on your property. After you bought something they still felt they had rights to get a portion of your sale, which is preposterous.

They can still give you family sharing without the 24 hour DRM and I am sure we will see it in the future too for digital downloaded title. I am sure we will see a lot of great upgrades like this within the next few years.

Physical titles should remain as is. Digital should add perks to entice us to believe they are worth being charged the same price as retail while carrying no actual ownership rights.

This is my take on the whole thing and personally I am appalled that people treat all of this like it is no big deal just because they don't personally care. It affects everyone and allowing it will carry a lot of consequences moving forward.

I do not disagree with the fact that physical version should remain the same. For the reasons you specified.

But when you say that just because we do not personnaly care we should not let this happen because it will affect everyone; this is where you are wrong imo.

I personnaly CARE for it actually to happen : what the 24h check brings to the table is actually something I WANT (to have my familiy be able to play all my digital games on my 3 consoles without the need to buy it for each account); and I do not see why I would not be pushing for that...

Don't worry, they will bring the family share back without the need for the check in. Competition will ensure that they find a way.

As for the family sharing NEEDING a 24 hour check in. I am pretty sure Steam's Family Sharing does not. Up to (10) people can be given access and only (1) at a time can play.

You weren't getting (10) people have access and all (10) can play at once.

Not sure why you bring Steam into that, if Steam does not need the check to share games, good for their customers :) But Xbox One required it and it was not bothering me. I prefer the 24h + the Family Sharing than nothing...

And yes, 10 people could play AT ONCE at 10 different games of your collections (as long as they were part of your family), it was at least the claim :) Now if you want to do not believe it it is fine, but the promise was very appealing!

Had my PS4 for 13 days, been online for one day to do updeats and get free Resogun and Contrast. So been happily offline for 12 days and counting.

People who don't have the internet are not the target market. Guess what? people who liv ein countries without a cell network aren't the target market for an iPhone. People who live in areas without electricity aren't the target market for any electronics. And people who live in countries with poor internet aren't the target market for the X1.

Also, saying there is "not one single advantage" is hyperbole. You clearly don't know what MS was planning if you say that. The 24 hour checkin was to allow sharing. Obviously you can't share games offline, or everyone can share a game, others log offline.... free game. The family sharin g and cloud stored games allowed those of us who are connected 24/7 anyway to actually move into the 21st century as far as game storage/sharing.

I think MS realized all the countries with less infrastructure were going with Sony products anyway, why target them? The 360's prime advantages over the PS3 were always it's online and multiplayer capabilities, they were planning to widen the gap once again.

How hard would it be to limit the 24 hour check to game sharers? Obviously those who dont go online cant game share anyway.

Its not rocket science.

PS+ does that already. get a 1 month trial and download all the games. If you want to stay offline then fine, carry on playing them for a month, but they will still expire after that. This doesnt mean the whole system will stop working, you will still be able to use it and play your physical games offline.

why couldnt MS with its great multiplayer capabilities think of something that simple?

I brought Steam into it because it is obvious that it IS NOT a requirement. It was just an anti-consumer policy added to their games.

You would prefer the 24h + family sharing than nothing. I would prefer no 24h + family sharing. Steam shows it can be done and just by knowing it can be done I don't understand why people would just go with the "whatever, i'll just deal with it" because that kind of laid back attitude will trickle across the entire industry.

MS also never claimed you can add (10) people and all (10) can play simultaneously.

Edit - Also just think about it. What publisher or developer would allow (1) sale to be playable concurrently by up to (10) people? That is a loss of (9) game sales. Even Phil Spencer stated that it wouldn't be (10) people playing concurrently. It would be like a library check out system. (1) at a time and when one is done, the others can play.

http://www.penny-arcade.com/report/article/xbox-one-allows-you-to-share-games-with-ten-family-members-but-some-details

It will end up working just like the family share plan on Steam, which is still a fantastic feature. Just you watch.
