When will observers understand that consumers don't buy systems only on launch line-up? People buy systems to play for years, so they choose the ones that have the best outlook, and those are PS4 and X1.

Anyway tagging this for when we have this week's figures.

Not going to happen mate, once the launch period is over and standard weekly sales come in you'll wish you never made such a prediction. Sony would also have to manufacture and ship 4m units in that time as well.

Wii U is the best choice this holiday considering that it is getting really cool games on the next months. Donkey Kong Tropical Freeze and Mario KArt 8 are early 2014 I think.

Glad to see that the Wii U is getting some positive media. I doubt it will help the system though.

Sure, PS4 sold amazingly well on its launch, but it was bought only by fans. How long can we expect such hype to keep ? Is there any game to keep the hype up next year until a new CoD come?

None of the three new consoles were able to attract new consumers to the market on its launch, and this is what really should be a matter of concern. 

Right now, I´d say that it´s impossible to make any prediction  of how any of the three will sell after holidays. I´d say that Ps4 and WiiU will sell just fine enough next year and I wouldn´t bet on XboxOne, but maybe all three will not sell well.

PS4 is on market for less than 2 weeks and X1 isn't even out for a full week yet and already you say they are not able to attract new consumers. So ps4 fans in NA alone were enough to create a single biggest launch in VG history?  Damn, imagine how big EU launch is gonna be

a 1 year old console finally got a game worth playing compared to new born consoles

 

 

But the reality is : If you have to buy jsut one system for the 3 years coming and , a long term value, PS4 is the best choice ( all sony exclusives + next gen games that are not on Wii U)

 

If you can buy 2 or 3 consoles in 1 year, i agree, Wii U is the best choice ( unless you have not PS3 or 360 , then one of these 2 consoles become the best choice for a short term value )



Predictions for end of 2014 HW sales:

 PS4: 17m   XB1: 10m    WiiU: 10m   Vita: 10m

Fair or not, regarding this holiday season it's true. And that's not a coincidence, it was part of Nintendo's launch first strategy I'm pretty sure.


If consumers are mostly interested in in short term software value (which they are not), people will consider PS3 or 360 over Wii U, like they did this whole year. They are cheaper than Wii U, yet on pair tech wise, they have better online infrastructure with a lot more active users and communities, have 100x bigger libraries comapred to Wii U, better HDD options, PS3 also has a free online and can read blu ray discs, so

Every console has the biggest launch in history because the industry is growing even the Dreamcast had one, launch sales are the early adopters and people who would of got one regardless of what's said and what they hear because they are fans of the brand. Regarding your bet Sony have already pretty much confirmed their shipments until the end of Q1 will not meet what you're expecting it to sell, even if it was sold out every week it wouldn't reach the sale's you're predicting as the U will have to stay stagnant on 4m for 4 months for the to be any chance as anything over 4m it simply won't be outsold, believe it or not the majority of shipments for Q1 comes from the launch period.

This is why we never base things on launch but more what happens towards the end of the launch year.
