2001 was a great year for games, it was actually one of the best years of the 6th generation, imo...which is curious, since it was that gen´s first real year.

A look at some of the games that were released that year, and certainly I´ll be forgetting some.

The last notable releases for the N64 and for the Dreamcast

The PS2 really took off that year, especially with GTA III

The Xbox managed to gain a foothold in the market due to Halo

As good as Star Wars was, I couldn´t help but feel disappointed the GC was the first Nintendo console to launch without a Mario game

An outstanding year for games, but also really sad, as it was the year Sega pulled out from the hardware business.

10/10, the PS2 was getting in full swing and all the 6th gen consoles came out, tons of great games on all platforms including Halo, Smash Bros, DMC, Ico, Civ 3 and so on and so forth.

Great year, thanks mostly to Halo, Ico, and Devil May Cry. Still not as good as 1998, but pretty awesome.

3/10 due to Banjo-Tooie

GC didn't launch here in Europe till 2002. The PC version of GTA3 was also 2002. Banjo-Tooie is the only game launched in Europe 2001 that I bought in the same year. (I probably bought a couple 2nd hand games but can't recall what)

If I go by a general list of games then maybe 7/10 due to GTA3, Rogue Squadron 2, Pikmin, GT3, Civ3, & Paper Mario. (though I couldn't or didn't buy some of those games in that year)

2001 is one of the most epic years in gaming history... three console launches (XB, GC and GBA), epic lineup of PS2 games, closing of the 5th gen with a few PS1/N64 gems, great PC lineup as well.

Of course, I will also remember 2001 for the tragedy of 9/11. Life was so much simpler before that day... had an awesome summer and was just starting my senior year of high school. Getting a GC for Xmas that year helped take my mind off things, but you knew life would never be the same.
