| fatslob-:O said: The negativity towards kinect is absolutely justified since it practically adds no value to the console whatsoever to the eyes of the general audience. The software on the first kinect was uncool and microsoft will likely continue giving pathetic software for it. A different approach to game controls isn't the issue with kinect. It is the awful software that keeps it from being worthwhile to many eyes of the PS4/X1 gamers. What's more is that bundling a worthless accessory only hurts microsoft more in the long run. |
This times a thousand, the thing is with Kinect, it's awesome for dancing games but with the original Kinect there is Dance Central (3 or 4 of them) Just dance (maybe 3-4 too) the Experience games (MJ and Black eyed peas) they're all really cool but outside of that genre there isn't really a whole ton you can do with it. Rise of nightmares showed us that it's just not possible for people to be expected to stand on one foot or walk on the spot through a 10-15 hour campaign to navigate around it. I guess fitness games can be done with Kinect fairly well... but they've been done over and over and over it's just it's very hard to expand on games like dancing and fitness, those are games which came out on kinects launch and a little there after, and now each new addition adds nothing more than a handful of new songs to dance to or older classics which weren't covered in the other 10 dancing games before... the real popular stuff.
As for bundling it so everyone has it and we all love it.... NO it doesn't work like that, Google currently trying to Bundle Google+ along with being able to Comment on youtube has made people hate google+ even more than when they just didn't care about it, now they care it exists and want it gone. Bundling stuff together doesn't mean you're going to like the extra thing because you have to take it with what you wanted.... otherwise people would be a whole lot happier about bundled STD's with Sex.

Yeah... I really can't point out much more how Kinect does dancing games well... but what can you do with a dance game which hasn't been done by these 15 or so titles?
Why not check me out on youtube and help me on the way to 2k subs over at www.youtube.com/stormcloudlive
It's because the only thing Kinect has added to gaming since it released is a higher price tag for a console.
To each his own, and motion gaming is NOT for me - be it mote, move or kinect. You guys can play what you like though. I'm no preacher, and I won't shove my religion of conventional controllers down your throats.
Playstation = The Beast from the East

Sony + Nintendo = WIN! PS3 + PSV + PS4 + Wii U + 3DS

the thing is kinect will be the first step into tvs including camera's and mics into the unit itself

Even that is not universally loved. Sacrificing easy camera control for faster aiming is a bad trade off for me. If your playstyle involves a lot of running around then turning corners with wiimote and move quickly becomes a chore. Even worse when free camera movement is removed like in Zelda, I find it very annoying that you can't look around anymore.
Me it's because it's not 100% reliable. That's pretty much it. A button press is 100%. A gesture, weather it be Doctor Who's screw driver TV remote, the Wii remote plus, or Kinect. If at any time I fail at jumping, talk like captain Kirk. Since I have to speak slow for Siri to understand me, or failing a puzzle, because of incorrect movement is read. It's useless. I failed Skyword sword puzzles constatnly. Just because things where forced as motion controls. For no real reason. And is the only Zelda game I haven't finished. The frustration level I got from the game was too high.
Works pretty well on PC is about it, don't know how useful K2 will be for PC yet but they'd both be good 3D scanners with proper software and a rotating bed for cheap.

Thats true, but I think you would agree with me that both controllers are at least functional (in contrast to Kinect).

Yes I did finish the whole KZ3 campaign with move, I got frustrated with red steel on the wii though and in Resistance 3 I switched back to dual analog, too much running around for move use.
All 3 can be used for aiming, the problem with Kinect is you lose everything else. Plus sticking your whole arm out as opposed to resting the wiimote+ or move on your knee gets tiring quickly. So even if it's true that the lag is no longer an issue for Kinect 2, it's still the least ideal for aiming.
Exaggerated movements and gesture recognition will always have an inherent failure rate and body movement lag. Body movement lag is more realistic, yet it's not what people want in their games. See all the uproar over 150ms turning lag in KZ2. And I found the faster cars in NFS shift 2 unleashed unplayable due to input dampening (lag).
