Those are some terrible numbers indeed. Like Pachter has said in the past, Nintendo fanboys, you let Nintendo down.

But anyways, everybody knows that the Wii u won't get that much 3rd party support. Some games here and there from their biggest Japanese supporters (Sega, Capcom) and some here and there from western companies that publish all their games on every possible platform (Activision, Ubisoft) and a few minor games of course.

Haven't checked the numbers but I doubt that even the gamecube sold this badly when it comes to 3rd party game. Wasn't Tales of symphonia a great success for example ? the resident evil games?

Did Nintendo fanboys let Nintendo down, or did third parties (and Nintendo, for securing so few and even fewer quality third party games) let fans down?

Consumers are not obligated to buy games. It's their hard earned money. They get to do what they want with it. It is up to these third party developers, who are BUSINESES in a free market society, to convince THEM to buy their software buy making good enough games that consumers will WANT to buy.

I'm sorry, but I still hold the belief that if a third party game sold poorly, there was probably a good reason for it, even on Nintendo consoles. Just makes me laugh how some people side with the third parties over gamers, who, at the end of the day, only care about your money - when these people are gamers themselves.

Explain to me why solid games with big following like COD and Assasin's creed sold so poorly this year compared to the 360/ps3/ps4.

The ps4 got the late ports this time and they weren't exactly master pieces with a few technical problems yet they sold quite a bunch. The Wii U didn't got a lot of 3rd party games this holidays, but the ones it got were among the best (I'm looking specifically at COD, AC4 and Batman). Also, Nintendo fans cried for years for games like Assasin's creed or a COD with HD graphics on the Wii and now that they have them nobody is even looking at them.

Heck, with less competition I would have expected even more sales for these games. For 2014  I won't even complain if we don't get a single 3rd party game in the whole year given how little Nintendo gamers have supported quality games in 2013 (just give me the previously announced watch dogs)

LOL Batman? Have you not read anything about the game on Wii U? It is worst than the first game. It was handballed to some second teir developer.

The other two games I agree they both are pretty good efforts and deserved to sell better.

Also you are kidding calling COD on PS4 a late port yer? The game come out before the console and also PS4 is the natural progression for PS3 crowd.

Sadly, most of WiiU install base is smaller children that only get 1-3 video games a year. Mostly Mario game, the WiiU will need a lot more then 4 million WiiU consoles sold if they want to get 500K per 3rd party release.

But at the same time, I think the WiiU does attract different customer base that don't own a Xbox or PS and these customers would be interest in the 3rd party offering especially if they came with a lower MSRP.

Got a source to back that up? Most the people I see buying Wii U games atm are 20+. The launch here was full of adults.

You were banned for this post. Am I missing something?

His first line, calling others fanboys.

OT: Now, if those Just Dance numbers don't show what I've been saying all along, then I don't know what will (that casuals have pretty much left home consoles entirely). That is a grim read overall, it seems to be getting harder and harder for Nintendo to blame developers alone, perhaps their customer base and they themselves need to take some responsibility as well.

meh i only own ninja gaiden 3(just ok) and epic mickey two(crap!!!)as far as third party goes on my wii u they were gifts however other wise id only own first party nintendo games so far....all the third party games that interest me are way to expensive where i live and i refuse to pay 60/50 for those games on the eshop

Last years installments of Call of Duty, Skylanders, Assassins Creed, Just Dance, Batman, Scribblenauts all sold in the 150-200k range. I hope this years Installments can sell in the 300-400k range, a 100% improvement. Its not a huge improvement but hopefully its enough for Activision, Ubisoft and Warner Bros to continue supporting Wii U.

Dont expect them to improve, they are competing with Nintendos 1st party now, last year all they had to compete with was NSMBU

yeah if anything its mainly 20+ year old core Nintendo fans who have played Nintendo consoles since the SNES or N64 days

Its really low sales, Nintendo should be blamed for this because they made inferior console and addicted users to buy their console only for their exclusive games.

GAMING is not about spending hours to pass/waste our time just for fun,

its a Feeling/Experience about a VIRTUAL WORLD we can never be in real, and realizing some of our dreams (also creating new ones).

So, Feel Emotions, Experience Adventure/Action, Challenge Game, Solve puzzles and Have fun.

PlayStation is about all-round "New experiences" using new IP's to provide great diversity for everyone.

Xbox is always about Online and Shooting.

Nintendo is always about Fun games and milking IP's.

Damn, Wii U owners need to buy more games or Ubisoft and other 3rd parties will seriously consider dropping console support.

I think Nintendo should quietly build a "Direct Buyers Club" program to spur the sales of non-family oriented Nintendo games.

Just some cool incentives they could easily offer for example:

Buy any one of

Batman: Arkham Origins
Call of Duty: Ghosts
Assassin's Creed IV
Splinter Cell: Blacklist

You receive a limited edition Samus figurine from Best Buy/EB locations. You also get a free downloadable copy of Xenoblade for your Wii U on the eShop.

I think that would start to at least double or triple the low sales of some of these games and it would cost Nintendo fairly little. I think third parties would very much appreciate it.

They could do a promotion like this every year for third party titles, spread the word through the online community and Nintendo Directs.
