Forums - General - Nintendo launches a successor to the WiiU in late 2015

2015 is too close to the point at which both PS4 and Xbox One will find a massive mainstream audience and probably a $299- $349 price point. Essentially no one one will be willing to buy Nintendo's system because they would have just bought either a ps4 and XO, both of which would have kill apps like Halo, FFXV and Uncharted either available or soon to be released.

It would flop and cost the company dearly (financially). How much do you think it will cost to manufacture, to research and develop, to make games for, to market, etc.? More than any money made from selling the system and games. It would also totally screw Nintendo up for the generation to follow.

It would be a huge flop.

Nintendo next gen console should come out atleast 2 years in advance of the others. Not 2 years after PS4 and Xbone.

After 4 years of this gen some gamers will start to itch for better graphics. At that time its still 2 years early for PS5. Nintendo should then come out with a console that will be twice as powerful as PS4 (4TFLOP), 16GB ram. In 3 years an apu with 4TFLOP will be mid end. Launch price of 349, only one SKU. Have the 4DS act as the Gamepad. Make it as developer friendly as possible, you'll see 3rd parties flocking to the system.

This.

This is similar to what Sega did back in the day... Just releasing console after console in the hopes that something would work... And it didn't so... it would probably flop even if it is more powerful than a ps4

They won't.

Rol and I went around on this for quite a while in another. Nintendo won't put out a successor until 2017... 2016 at the earliest, but that is really stretching it.

Furthermore it will be more similar to Wii U in terms of power being above PS4 but not cutting edge of that time.

Nintendo may as well not even bother if that's going to be their philosophy. No one is going to buy a "PS4-four-years-late" console.

It's one of the main things that's killing the Wii U ... who the hell wants another PS3/360 level system? Nobody except a small niche of Nintendo fans that have been waiting 6 years to play 7-8 different franchises in 720p.

PS3/360 are cheaper and have hundreds of games and tons of cheap discounted games on top of a robust catalog of online titles. The Wii U looks like crap by comparision without the novelty of an game changing controller.

Personally I think Nintendo is probably done with the traditional console this time around. They are going to focus on making a tablet that can wirelessly stream games to a nearby TV when at home IMO.

100m+ people wanted to play SD games on Wii.

I'm pretty sure that if/when Nintendo builds the games, they will come.

-Every third party.

Sure, now all you have to do is create a mind blowing, industry shaking control mechanism that is so spectacular that it has people opening their wallets the moment they see it being used.

Nintendo fans are still in denial about this thinking it was the Wii overall library or something -- the 360 library sh*ts all over the Wii library in overall quality. It was never the overall breadth of the Wii library that drove its system sales, the system's library quite honestly aside from about 7-8 great efforts from Nintendo (SMG, SMG2, Zelda: SS, Zelda: TP, Metroid Prime 3, DKCR, Mario Kart Wii) is fairly mediocre in quality, especially all the third party garbage on it.

The Wii sold on Wii Sports/Fit crazes and the controller, and that is a formula that is almost impossible to replicate -- as Nintendo is finding out for themselves with the bomb called the Wii U. Strip away the controller and rely on only Nintendo franchises to sell a system and you're back to GameCube territory (actually sub-GameCube territory if we want to be accurate here) in the blink of an eye.

What would happen? I don't know. What I do know is that I wouldn't buy it.
