Forums - Nintendo - 130 million 3DS + 30 million Wii U = 8th Gen Nintendomination!

OP is so desperate. So I guess Microsoft loses this generation by default because it doesn't have a handheld huh?

Actually that's probably true. Nintendo makes most of it's money from it's handhelds (pretty sure they still made a lot more with the DS than they did even with the Wii). There have been reports about how Microsoft hasn't really made much from being in the hardware business. If they had a handheld, and if hypothetically it was able to perform somewhere near PSP levels (let's be honest, no way anyone else will perform near DS/3ds levels) then it would make them a ton of money.

Handheld games are ridiculously cheaper to make, take less time to make, and you can generally do crazy ideas and the market is fine with it, yet they still charge $40 compared to $50-60 for the home console games.

Lol to all these people who actually think that the 3DS will struggle to reach 80M. It is tracking wayy above the PSP and is merely 11M behind the DS. It will most likely end up in the 105-115m ballpark when everything is said and done. But 80M is laughable.

Wii was tracking above PS2 and it wont even outsell PS1...

DS was outpacing PS2 by a big gap too, and it fell short of outselling it.

Nintendo can't support their hardware for long

Wii was tracking above PS2 and it wont even outsell PS1... Let's not compare handhelds and consoles, 2 very different markets.

DS was outpacing PS2 by a big gap too, and it fell short of outselling it. Again, DS would have EASILY outsold the PS2 Nintend had not cut it's life short, then again, this point is also irrevelant on explaining why 3DS will struggle to reach 80M.

Nintendo can't support their hardware for long Nintendo DS: Sold well from 2004-2011. That is 7 years my friend. 3ds was released in 2011 and we are now in 2013, if we go with that cycle, the 3DS would see it's successor in 2018. The 3DS will end the year of 2013 with around 45 million units sold, if you honnestly think that the 3ds will STRUGGLE to sell another 35M units in around 4-5years, then as I said, your prediction is very laughable.

Predictions for LT console sales:

PS4: 120M

XB1: 70M

WiiU: 14M

3DS: 60M

Vita: 13M

Why not throw in the Wii as well, just for good measure? This is absolutely nuts how people scramble around to find some way Nintendo can keep their throne on the home console market. Far beyond anything else I've seen on this site. Merging markets to inflate lifetime sales; pure genius.
Or desperation, who knows.

If this comes true, and I don't think it will, it will be a very slight victory. Personally I think you've massively overinflated the likely LTD sales of the WiiU and 3DS and to be perfectly honest, given the crazy USA FW for PS4 and the fact that struggling though it may be, Vita is currently a decent amount ahead of WiiU and will have a the typical long sony shelf-life, I think the most likely candidate for this gen overall is still Sony - nintendo can still do it, but it would mean refinding the casual audience that fuelled the Wii/DS boom and I din't think they can do it mainly because that sort of audience seems reluctant to buy the same thing twice (this is the main reason I don't expect Kinect 2.0 to drive many Xbone sales - the people who want that sort of experience already have it on 360 and have no reason to uprgrade).

When all is said and done, I think 3DS will hit around 90-100m, with WiiU at 15m for 120m total, whereas I see PS4 at 110-120m and vita and maybe 20m for 140m, and Xbone at about 50m

...what? PS1, PS2 and Wii are all home consoles. I dont know what are you talking about

I never said 3DS wont reach 80M, but you actually proved my point by contradicting yourself with your 2nd and 3rd point

Why is anyone including the 3DS in next gen? Handhelds should compete with handhelds, not be a crutch for a failing home console.

What the hell are you even talking about??? My original post: Lol to all these people who actually think that the 3DS will struggle to reach 80M. It is tracking wayy above the PSP and is merely 11M behind the DS. It will most likely end up in the 105-115m ballpark when everything is said and done. But 80M is laughable.

You tried arguing me by saying that nintendo Nintendo hardware are not supported for long enough to reach 80M (if not, why did you even quote me or try to argue with me?). I responded by saying that DS life was cut short in comparison to the PS2 and it still nearly outsold it (your comparison there was simply terrible). On that 3rd point, I once again proved my point that I was making in my ORIGINAL post by pointing out that if the 3DS see's a similar lifetime as the DS, then it has 4-5 years left. Anyone who thinks that the 3DS will struggle to reach 80M are silly.

If you did not think that the 3DS would struggle to reach 80m lifetime, then I am not sure why you even tried to argue with me.

Vita: 13M

PS4 105-120 million
XBone 60-70 million
WiiU 30-40 million

3DS 95-105 million
PSV 35-45 million

PS4 sales like PS2? Well, maybe.
