It has been outselling 360 for the last four weeks,

what last 4 weeks?
first 4 January weeks? or 2 weeks of February and 2 weeks of January?
ChartTrack has also revealed that the Sony console has been outselling 360 for the last month.
Last month it`s a January then..? Then ps3 hits 1 mln. in 45 weeks? =)

Anyway,
Week Ending 06th January 2008
x360 27,425
ps3 23,120
Week Ending 13th January 2008
x360 18,058

Atleast 4 weeks should be in favour of PS3 then. =)

@Bod

if Ps3 is at it's 47th week,

it has 3 weeks to sell 150K

at a rate of 15K a week that IS'NT possible...

so

UNDERTRACKED CONFIRMED!

All hail the KING, Andrespetmonkey

According to chart-track, via OPM, the PS3 sold about 873k units in 2007, VG chartz has it down as 840k to now, and the total with Jan and the start of Feb with chart track figures, would put it on at least 950k, which makes more sense

Bodhesatva said:

How can you read that and think it confirms undertracking? Chart Track says that the PS3 "is to hit" 1 million faster than the PS2. That would mean it hasn't yet.

well, it took ps2 50 weeks to sell 1 million units, right? vgchartz currently has ps3 out at 47 weeks. once again, according to vgchartz, ps3 needs to sell over 150k in 3 weeks, in the uk, for the statement to make sense anyway. whether it "is to hit", or already has.

Actually, read further:

"The charts authority also confirms that PS3 is to hit a million sales faster than it's predecessor PS2."

Which could suggest it hasn't actually hit it yet, but will within the next 10 weeks.

We need clarification from Sony and/or Chart-Track.

I haven't read any further beyond this post but I think you are correct, they seem to be implying it is not quite at 1 million but it should reach it faster than PS2, so it's likely around 900-950k (and shipped is over 1 million of course) I cant see there being more than 100k supply in the UK, even for PS3, so VGC must be 50-100k lower than chart-track.

Correct, I think Chart Track may well be referring to the month "January". So the PS3 may actually have outsold the 360 for 1 or 2 more weeks when Chart Track finalized their data. Yes, that's speculation (before anyone attacks).

Naughty Dog: "At Naughty Dog, we're pretty sure we should be able to see leaps between games on the PS3 that are even bigger than they were on the PS2."

PS3 vs 360 sales

@ Bodhesatva )

Do you realize ,that your whole argumentation is build upon 3 words, that might very well be a misleading formulation by the editor ?

Anyway, as krik pointed out at least the other sentence seems to confirm a slight undertracking by ~9%.

Then again there is the gamasutra article, which says, that it's definately 1million to custumors and that the whole thing was started by media outlets claiming 1 million PS3s have been sold in UK and Sony mearly reacted to those news with something along the lines "yes, we will have a press conference about that later".

I can't wait for that press conference!

Hopefully it will help clarify a few things.

Well, then it confirms the 360 being over-tracked. Chart track CLEARLY say that the PS3 has outsold the 360 for the last 4 weeks and was selling on par for the last 3 weeks of last year. Vgchartz does not say that... According to VGchartz the 360 outsold PS3 in UK every week.

It also means that the PS3 has to sell 150k in 4 weeks just to get to the mil mark and that will be at 50weeks. Odds of PS3 selling 150k in UK in 4 weeks? Yeah... I thought so.

Undertracked is the most logical outcome or Charttrack are full of crap. One or the other.
