Sony likes to cherry pick sales data like this, lets face it the PS3 is still selling well below Sony's FY08 plans.

I think Nintendo has a history of releasing cheap game consoles which are relatively easy to develop for but don't really grow much in course of time. I think the anticipated PS3 games for 2008 and 2009 are to be ranked higher than the GameCube had to offer during its entire lifecycle. So I think this will mean little from the big perspective.

I'll predict a future cheaper slimline PS3 combined with a PS2 retirement will beat Wii sales.

Reading ioi's comments and checking MCV it looks like another PS3 adjustment might be coming...

 Actually, the article doesn't say chart-track is confirming it, it only confirms the PS3 is outselling the 360 in the beginning of 2008:

Especially that last sentence seems to imply the PS3 has yet to cross the 1M mark.

"Sony confirm to MCV"..? Shipped or sold? We aren't undertracking UK sales by 170k - or almost 25% are we? That seems excessive. 1m shipped to UK seems about right though - and would make sense coming from Sony (their "sold" figure - to UK stores)

Ah, yes, I read that wrong. Chart-Track confirmed PS3 has outsold 360 for last 4 weeks. Also says they were "neck and neck" weeks 49-52.
