Forums - Sony - PS4 analog sticks are garbage

Griffin said:

I was at Best buy today and was able to test out the PS4 they had on display and the analog sticks are garbage is the only way to put it.

After hearing about the PS4 sticks and how they were wearing out very easily i decided to test them out myself.  My test consisted of rubbing the analog stick with my thumb/palm for 30 seconds in a circle pattern, after this time all texture on the PS4 stick had been warn off.  I decided to test this for another 30 seconds, after this time parts of the rubber were clearly rubbing off.  I inspected the controller after the final test to make sure i was not just seeing stuff, but on closer inspection the rubber was looking very rough with flakes clearly falling off.  I feel after another 1min of stress testing the analog stick would be useless for continued gaming.

I don't see how Sony could not see this during the making of the controller or system.  Are the developers using different controllers in their studies?  Did Sony cheap out at the last minute for the analog sticks.  How could something like this happen?

Are you telling me that Sony's internal testing team did not do tests on their gamepads that lasted for longer than 30 seconds on a device that they know will be used for hours and hours on end?

So this was an old thread that was bumped (by me).  I felt the same way as many of you did.  That I had played plenty of time on these controller and was showing no signs of wear.    I bumped this thread because mine in fact are showing those signs of wear now too.   And I was in here commenting against it just a few weeks ago.

The rubber textured grip on the outside has a bumpy more course texture.  There appears to be a very, very thin rubber coating over top of the harder rubber contained underneath coating the joystick.   I'm getting peeling of this outer 'grip' layer forming on (2) seperate controllers --- (1) purchased outside of the console, from two different locations.    I own (7) Dualshock 3's and have never had an issue with anything outside of the Joystick wearing out.  So this isn't a 'greasy hands / poorly taken care off / etc /etc' situation.   It's happening on the left sticks, so I can logically assume that the 'upward' pressing and holding for sprinting / movement / etc  is causing the problem.

While it's not as 'big' a deal (yet) as people (MS trolls) are making it.  It's definitely happening and I would imagine it would/will be happening to most gamers playing active games.  ( I own Resogun / Veteran mode skill level) and Killzone Shadowfall.    I've beat the game and logged maybe 10-20 hours into Multiplayer.  You will only see more of these types of posts,  I would guarantee it.

I've been using a PS4 controller for my PS3 since BlackFriday and my left stick's rubber has worn flat. I bought Gel Tabz yesterday and have been wondering what is the best controller tab out there.

weres the picture?

i have about 30 hours on my controller and nothing is wrong with them

I can't give a photo of the controller sticks. I glued down the tab on the bad stick. It didn't occur to me to photograph it. The final straw was when I started using the controller to play Marvel versus Capcom using the stick. After two days rubber was all over the controller.

I finally got my hands on the PS4 controller today.  It felt great.  Reminded me of this beast

which I used to love.  Still haven't gotten my hands on the Xbox One controller.  I think the PS4 controller will be juuuuuuuust fine.

*edit* couldn't find the non-Air Flow version of the controller that I used to own.  Still a great controller and looks almost the same.

This is what I call a thread with legs.

really miss the VGCHARTZ of 2008 - 2013...

@Skeeuk the "dandruff" is some sort of manufacturer defect that the last video I posted shows you how to clean. It's what's making the controller stick.
