Ladies,

I am not trolling. Just a short question:

Is this legit?

http://www.amazon.com/PlayStation-4-Launch-Edition/product-reviews/B00BGA9WK2/ref=cm_cr_dp_qt_hist_one?ie=UTF8&filterBy=addOneStar&showViewpoints=0

Sooo many DOA-Units?

Thanks

I'm thinking most are trolling, but some are legit due to Amazon packing or lack thereof. If the hardware was the issue, why aren't people that bought their systems from retail stores not reporting DOA consoles? Best Buy's support forums would be flooded if this was an actual issue.

Best Buy.

Yep, that's what I thought. Trolls.

1. The negative reviews either say nothing specific and just say typical Xbox fanboy rhetoric. Here's an example I just read.

"Such a long wait for a terrible product. I'm not going to get into it because of time but the reviews will be coming!! Not good, bad Sony!!"

2. None of the reviewers mentioning a bricked system have posted in the community forums. Strange don't you think?
3. 90% of the reviews, positive and negative, are from June and July.

True and the same goes for positive reviews also.Sony fanboy rethoric.

You must've missed #3.

Where are the people on this site so quiet about their PS4's? It seemed like a lot of people were getting them.

Help clarify things!!! Probably too busy though playing them.

Lol VGChartz goes silent when Sony fans actually play games instead of talking about them. *Logs off to go play Assassin's Creed*

What did I say wrong?

My take on this, failure rate is still fairly low, under 3% easilly at this point, and if you end up with a dead one you can just have it replaced, sure you have to wait a bit longer but its not like you have no options at all.

And plenty more if you have the time to search through them, people posting 1 star reviews on basically all of the bundles to drive down the ratings.
Incidentally, I have seen VERIFIED people writing 1 star reviews on multiple bundles too, now you're not going to tell me that they bought several systems and every one of them was DOA, are you?

People naturally focus on negatives. For example, if one guy cuts you off while driving to work one day, you'll say the people on the road were horrible today. What about all the other people who drove past you, or next to you who drove perfectly well? It's the same thing, if you get a console that breaks, you're a lot more likely to go to a site to rant about it. My console stays perfectly cool, never crashed, etc. Based on the numbers we have right now, about 99.6% of people would say the exact same thing, but the majority of them won't say something.

Only time will tell.

Even then, knowing any concrete numbers or percentages will be impossible. We still don't know how widespread the DRE's on the PS2 or the RRoD's on the 360 actually were, just estimates.

That being said, the problems are real. Hopefully they are truly isolated and not indicative of a larger problem.

I'm going to have to go with the wait and see approach.

It's pretty easy to sort through FUD and determine who is really telling the truth. Given the high profile nature of the release and this new fangled thing called social media, word gets around pretty quickly among trusted circles.

It's ridiculous to think that there are no problems; every piece of hardware has a rate of failure, however small. Of course it still boggles my mind that any hardware that's supposedly tested at the factory before being boxed and shipped could arrive DOA, assuming no damage in transit.

My guess is most of the reported cases are caused by the misaligned piece of metal in the HDMI port as reported by Kotaku.  Mine arrived and wasn't working.  Was about to call customer service when I saw the article on Kotaku.  Checked the HDMI port and sure enough, a tiny piece of the metal was lifted up when it should be laying flat.  Fixed it and now my PS4 is working just fine.

http://kotaku.com/good-news-about-our-once-broken-ps4-1464813671

That's a pretty important bit of info that needs to be disseminated, given how a seemingly catastrophic hardware failure could be nothing more than a ten second user fix.

I haven't had any of the reported problems with mine, but it's still a good piece of information to know.

yeah trolls... i mean people in vgchartz would explode if they reaceive a DOA ps4... but no they are too busy playing games

No because it would be jumping the gun and a good way to lose reputation.  We don't know yet.  And it is also the weekend which doesn't help. Gamespot for instance does not publish anything on weekends.  For now you will be relying on fan feedback where some is true and some is not.   If you are a well known site you are not going to publish something and say my source is from amazon reviews.  That is a good way to lose reputation.

Youre not reading what Im saying.

If these apparent problems were widespread then social media would have blown up with people complaining about it. These things would be trending on Twitter and Facebook. Realistically, in the last 24 Hours there has been over 500,000 PS4s sold in America. If the problems were as bad as were led to believe with these Amazon reviews then you can be sure as hell that we would be hearing the Internet blow up with complaints.

Its nothing to do with the big sites reporting things based on Amazon. Its to do with consumers reporting problems on social media.

We arent hearing widespread complaints.

The dedication that many of the immature 15 year old CoD Xbots have to defend their purchase is something that people should keep in mind when seeing stuff like this on the internet. I can't believe how hard it is to have a good conversation about anything regarding both consoles online without some dimwit xbox trolling. From what I have heard from friends. no one I know with a PS4 has had any issues. Like I said before, the only thing that I don't like is the sound of the fan..it's more noticable than my 360's fan. It's not loud, mind you, it's just a hum that I can hear over my speakers, Also everyone keep in mind that the negative reviews on Amazon have more to do with the fact that people that are happy with their order are playing their PS4's and haven't filled out any positive info yet.
