Once again, I don't believe EVERY game needs to run off the hard drive. I believe that was a design choice Sony is forcing all developers to do. Your excuse of the disc drive simply not being fast enough, I don't buy it.

Sony is forcing the developers? Really?

Every developer will be happy, when they don't have to waste their resources to tweak/streamline loading times of the disc versions.

Agreed. But it doesn't appear to be an option, period.

You're basing that on what exactly? It's possible they have the option but I can't see why a developer would bother when they can just have game data on the HDD and loading a lot faster.

The only people this really hurts are consumers who're going to have to purchase new HDDs or manage their game data. Developers are happy with this state of affairs.

Buy SSD, buy games from PS Store, welcome to your instant loading times.

Your response is useless.

I'll just repeat myself again, Sony said ALL games must be installed. That leads me to believe developers don't have the option to run games off the disc.

I will believe otherwise if we see a single game with no required install.

To strengthen your position... which PS4 retail games do you think won't profit from faster loading times by caching data to the much faster HDD?

Please give us some examples!

Why? A 50gb install per game? In fact I recall sony saying 0 loading times ever for games... yet not only did nba 2k13 install itself onto the HDD..... but it has almost the same lengthy loading times that 2k13 did on the ps3..... and the game although looks much better... doesn't look so good that it has to run on both the disc and the HDD for it to sustain 60fps at 1080p on a console 10 times more powerful than ps3 with 8gb of ram....

why is sony forcing 25GB + installs for games???? When games like KZ2, which looks arguebly as good as nba 2k13... with way more going on, runs with mb on the HDD... on the ps3, and even less loading?

Why are you so bothered it installs as you play, so even with larger installs youll be in and playing in under a minute in most cases, rather than the 20+ minutes of the smaller installs of last gen.

The size increase is mostly due to more detailed textures, to fill up that that ram and 1080p framebuffer, it really is a none issue, if youve got crap internet buy box product.

I don't have a PS4, so I can only comment on what I have had.  I've had over 100 games for each my PS3 and Xbox 360 at one time.  A 500GB hard drive would fill up pretty fast if you had to do a mandatory install of many 25+GB games.  For me, over time, I'd have to delete a game to play a new one or one that I had to delete before.  For me, I like convenience, pop the disc in and play.  That's been my biggest complaint with the PS3.  I've bought new games that required a 1+ hour patch, then an install of said patch before I could even play the game.  I have limited time, so I don't like to wait that long as I end up just doing something else instead

Stop hating and start playing.

Uhmm... any PS4 game at the moment. They all look like PS3 games.

This is a stupid argument. My point is developers don't have the option to run a game off the disc. You just keep arguing the benefits of a HDD. You're in defensive mode for no good reason.

So the 400 GB of RAM (since some go to the OS) means I can only have 7-10 games before my HDD Is full? :(

That was a subtle hint for a link/source. So, source?

When playing disc-based games on PS4, do I need to install data to the hard drive?

Yes, all PS4 Blu-ray Disc games must be cached to the hard drive to ensure a smooth gaming experience. However, certain titles may not require you to wait for the game data to be fully cached before starting gameplay. In order to start playing disc-based games, users will need to insert the game disc into PS4 just like on the PS3 system.
