I would probably wait a couple of years before buying their hardware again.

Well, I still bought the WiiU despite Nintendo stupidly abandoning the Wii prematurely.
if in like 3 or 4 years i wouldn't mind if they launch a new console cause typically i think 5 years is the perfect length for a consoles life. but i would be piss if like next year they stop support which at least so far shows on sign of.
I was a hardcore sega fan and i got their systems cause they made the best games. I have only gotten the gamecube from nintendo and i was happy with that. If they droped support on the Wii U i would definitly not risk buying another home console from them.
Back then, despite beeing a fan i hated the way sega dropped the saturn.

People say NIntendo abandoned the Wii early but, with the exception of the Nes, Nintendo consoles normally get about five or six years of support. The Wii lived a full life. It's the PS3/360 that are living abnormally long lives.
*edit* well, I guess abnormal is the wrong word since PS1 and PS2 lived to be old as fuck, too.

I was about to highlight that same point. What a statement. I guess the almost half a million people that bought a 3DS last week and many times that who will buy it over the holidays are seriously damage by brand Nintendo. You may forgive them for droping the wii u that but I am sure most of the 3.9m wouldn't. |
I don't think 3DS sales are really relevant when we talk about home consoles. Plenty of people I know own a 3DS but wouldn't touch a Wii U.
The Wii U IS damaging the Nintendo brand in home consoles . The ~90 million people who owned a Wii and not a Wii U are evidence of that. They are losing marketshare because people don't see it as a worthwhile investment. Marketshare is extremely hard to recapture and Nintendo have only done it one time in their history.

so abandoning the WiiU is better for them? you know if they do that I will wait until it starts selling well and then buy one and I won't be the only one who will think like that but you think it is a better idea than sticking with WiiU and instead fix the problem? the sales are picking up and the games are many
what Nintendo can do next year is introduce a new WiiU model like they did with 3DS

I don't buy Nintendo products (But I do want a 3DS for Pokemon), but it would depend on when they dropped it, how much support it got and the reasons behind it.
There is no good reason to drop the WiiU though, at worst they should get to a point where the hardware is profitable and ride out the generation. They have nothing to gain and much more to lose quitting on WiiU now.

No I think fixing the problems is definitely the better option. But Nintendo seem either unwilling or unable to do that.
