Forums - Nintendo - Would you stop buying Nintendo products if they dropped support for the Wii U now?

I think so long as they released the games they had already announced for the Wii U I would forgive them for dropping support. They could sweeten the deal by giving away some virtual console titles.

The console is a failure and it's starting to cause irreperable damage to the brand in the eyes of consumers, third parties and shareholders. As a Nintendo fan I think I'd rather they pulled the plug now and came up with ways to fix those relationships rather than further isolate themselves for the next four years.

Not even close lol. But yes Wii U is a failure. Period

Are you the left person?

If not ...

Zorg: I'm mainly speaking of the games CURRENTLY released for the Wii U. A console generally doesn't sell based of future games, but anyway, yes, I absolutely agree that many of the future Wii U games DO seem to lean towards the more Wii-style games. That definitely bodes well for the future of Wii U.. Question is, is it too little too late?

When you look at most of the games currently released, you have stuff like:

Pikmin 3
(like you said, a Gamecube sequel)
Zelda WW (a direct remake of a Gamecube game)
Wonderful 101 (similar to Pikmin)
Zombi U (Definitely a more hardcore/Gamecube style game)
Bayonetta 2 (again, hardcore style game you might find on Gamecube)
Sonic Lost World (ahem.. Sonic Adventure 2 battle anyone?)
Resident Evil Revelations (parellels the RE stuff on the Gamecube..)
Tank Tank Tank (Battalian Wars?)

Then you have a bunch of more "hardcore" leaning third party ports such as: Assassin's Creed 3 and 4, Ninja Gaiden, Tekken 3, Mass Effect 3, Dark Siders 2, Black Ops II, Batman: Arkam City, (all reminiscent of the more hardcore type third party ports found on Gamecube)

Basically right now NSMB U is the only game keeping the Wii U somewhat afloat and viable. Nintendoland is far more complex and intimidating to the average gamer than Wii Sports was, and its concept far more niche. Hell, I even struggle figuring out some of those mini games, and I've been rotting my brain on video games for 20+ years.. If anything, Nintendoland resembles more of the Mario Party games, which you would find primarily on N64 and.. *ahem*, GAMECUBE.

Wii U is, AS OF NOW, basically a Gamecube part II, disguised as a Wii. Consumers can see through that disguise, hence the poor sales. They aren't even really focusing much on Virtual Console with Wii U, which I believe was a vastly underrated aspect that factored into the Wii's success.

However, in the coming weeks and beyond, Wii U will start to get its more Wii-ish/arcadey type of games, which are far more accessible to the common gamer. We'll see how that affects sales. I think it's pretty clear they will rocket up. The question is, to what extent?

First of all, cutting support so early in the generation, before releasing any major software, would be an incredibly stupid move businesswise.

A large part of the reason for the Wii U's low sales is that Nintendo has only released a handful of games so far; and these do not include any flagship titles of any of their traditional major brands. In fact, most of these they haven't even shown yet. It was poor planning on Nintendo's part. Wii year 1 had a flagship[ Zelda, Mario, and Metroid title released; 17 new first party games total. Wii U year 1 has only had three new titles: Nintendo Land, Mario 2D U, and Pikmin; all other releases have been expansions or remakes.

What if they cut support for the 3DS before releasing Mario Kart, Animal Crossing, and Pokemon? People were calling it a flop before that as well - but in retrospect, how stupid of a decision would that have been?

I describe myself as a little dose of toxic masculinity.

I spent my own money buying a console to play games - I expect of Nintendo to provide those games, or to facilitate a process whereby 3rd parties can provide those games. If Nintendo does not honour their side of the bargain, then it is not rational for me to continue to support them.

It would be like giving money to a con man even after you've realized you've been conned.

(PS I'm not actually worried about it though. The Wii U is a great console, and there are already a number of great games available for it.)

Being as I spent more money on the console than the actual games I bought for it, I would be very upset..

As soon as they stopped supporting Virtual Boy I immediately stopped buying Nintendo products. True story, bro!

Nope. And they won´t drop support to the WiiU.

if they stop making gaming devices, they will do something else. But when it happens, probably there won´t be any other console and the market will be definetely vanished

I don't think the question really matters considering the point is moot, only someone with the business sense of an idiot would think Nintendo is going to cut support for their console before any major games are out.

I do think Nintendo made a definite error in waiting so long to get heavy Wii U development underway. The console launched in 2012, but the first major titles don't arrive until 2014.

Although the 3D Mario game lately has looked less like a spinoff 3D title, and more like a Mario Galaxy game... Although I don't think it has the same sort of hype that an authentic Galaxy game would have.

nah but i'll never buy a Nintendo console at launch again if they did

bet with ash3336 he wins if Super Mario 3D World sells less than Mario Sunshine during the first three years, I win if 3D World outsells Sunshine's first 3 years. Loser get sig controlled for 3 months (punishment might change)

Do you doubt the WiiU? Do you believe that it won't match the GC?

Then come and accept this bet

I wouldn't trust them anymore and would only bother buying a Nintendo consoles if it becomes dirt cheap.
