Forums - Nintendo - Would you stop buying Nintendo products if they dropped support for the Wii U now?

No I think fixing the problems is definitely the better option. But Nintendo seem either unwilling or unable to do that.

well you can't know that until you see what happens with the sales with the games that have recently released and are coming out the last couple of weeks this year. the system is already selling better

games can't come out faster than they are able to develop them and releasing unfinished games will create more problems for them later on so right now all we can do is wait and see

I honestly dont understand why people think Nintendo will or should stop supporting Wii U, they have barely releaded any of there big guns yet. For the launch they had New Super Mario Bros U and Nintendo Land which did pretty well at pushing consoles during launch and have been pushing the console pretty much by themselves for almost the whole year. From Jan-Sept the only Nintendo developed games I can think of are Game & Wario, New Super Luigi U, Pikmin 3 and Wind Waker HD. Other than 2D Mario they havent released any of there huge sellers.

3D Mario, Donkey Kong, Mario Kart, Smash Bros and Wii Sports/Fit/Party are series that routinely sell over 5 million and are all going to be released within the next 6 months. If they do not help Wii U then we can start talking about Nintendo giving up on it.

When the herd loses its way, the shepard must kill the bull that leads them astray.

Well... As long as they send some free sex with their hottest models for a year in Mario and Luigi customs, then I wouldn't mind... Heck I would be rich as a wiiU owner cause it will be worth 10,000+ in the future

PC Specs: CPU: 7800X3D || GPU: Strix 4090 || RAM: 32GB DDR5 6000 || Main SSD: WD 2TB SN850

I would stop buying the home consoles new and get them used instead. Software new as usual.

Well as I have said previously, it's because they are digging themselves into a hole that they will never get out of.

Barring a never seen before turnaround in sales, Nintendo will completely lose all good will with retailers, third parties, media, shareholders and consumers (and I don't mean Nintendo fans, I mean the millions of people the system is targetted at).

You see mainstream sites like CNET telling consumers to stay far away from the Wii U this christmas. Imagine what four more years of articles like that will do to consumer perception of Nintendo. Third parties have already stopped developing for the system, in four years time they'll have no interest in supporting whatever Nintendo do next.

I'm aware I am probably coming accross as some moronic Nintendo hater, but I really do love the company. I still think they're capable of creating the best games out there. But I can't accept this "oh well, they can't do better so just let it rot out there" attitude. If the Wii U is REALLY the best Nintendo can manage in 2013, it's time for them to accept they need to become a third party developer. Personally I think they are capable of SO much better and would like to see them drop this dud and aim for something to keep the company relevant. Four more years of this is not sustainable.

But like I said they have yet to release the majority of there big selling franchises, for the first 10 months of Its life it relied almost entirely on 2D Mario which is a system seller but can only do so much on its own. I understand and agree that they had a very shitty 2013 but i strongly believe most of that had to do with its terrible drought.

Its like if PS4/One didnt have Call of Duty, Battlefield, Assassins Creed, FIFA, Madden at launch and relied mostly on Killzone/Infamous or Dead Rising/Forza for the first 10 months then how well do u think they would sell and would u say Sony/Microsoft should abandon them?

No. I would probably just wait longer to get their next console to ensure it would be getting continued support.

No but I would be disappointed, if Ninty quits on the Wii U early in its life cycle. I'm rooting at the underdogs to prove their detractors wrong by selling around a respectable sales figure during its entire life cycle.

Depends.

If it just dropped with nothing, then idk.. I'd be pretty pissed.

If it dropped with some sort of large discount on whatever followed, then no.

Guess this xmas will define that future.

Well, I still bought the WiiU despite Nintendo stupidly abandoning the Wii prematurely.

People say NIntendo abandoned the Wii early but, with the exception of the Nes, Nintendo consoles normally get about five or six years of support.  The Wii lived a full life.  It's the PS3/360 that are living abnormally long lives.

*edit* well, I guess abnormal is the wrong word since PS1 and PS2 lived to be old as fuck, too.

The Wii lasted a full six years on the market before its successor arrived but the console was a barren wasteland for its last two years regarding support.  Nintendo basically cut its jugular in 2011 and neither Skyward Sword nor the "project rainfall" games (which were completely botched as far as NA localization) were sufficient band-aids.  Nintendo was stupid to treat such a successful console in that manner.

The one silver lining (we hoped) was that this would at least result in the WiiU hitting the ground running with a veritable barrage of killer 1st party software in its first few months but we all know how that turned out.

Regarding the OP, however, the only thing stupider than how Nintendo has handled the WiiU so far would be if they just dropped support for it now.
