I think I'm ok with it, why use them if you can get a comparable taste with a healthier substitute?

The problem is you can't.  Go buy some Canadian versions of US food on ebay or something and taste the difference.  The problem is due to food portions and lack of excercise not some fats in the food.

I wouldn't say making food healthier can't help a little, but you are right that portion control and exercise is more important.  That being said, we're allowed to smoke and eat a bunch of things that are never good for us in any dose.  If they've linked a certain thing to heart disease across the board, getting rid of it is a good idea in my opinion.

Also, I guarantee that if McDonalds is forced to use different methods, they will still produce a food that people think is very tasty.

I figured that, I just thought that was a big enough example that anyone could understand what I meant.

I thnk that actually has more than a little to do with why I, personally, am more or less okay with this. The fact McDonalds is able to live with alternatives without anybody really making a fuss about it seems to indicate it's not that big of a deal.

I believe in honesty, civility, generosity, practicality, and impartiality.

The funny thing is that trans fats became more widespread as a substitute for tropical oils which were the previous target before trans fats.

Not as long as Tobacco and alchohol are legal no.

The "no transfat is safe" arguement is generally BS.

Eh, they sort of do.

Vegetable oil and Canola oil actually have unlisted transfats.

Yeah, I know about that. I just didn't want to elaborate. But that article elaborates well.

Still though, It would be interesting to see results on the new oil vs the old oil. I don't think most people would claim that french fries are ever the most healthy thing to eat.

Regardless, I don't like government regulating these things, information is out there on trans fats. You can choose or not to choose to eat it. Just like you can choose or not to drink or smoke. Reality is always more complicated than what I'm saying ofcourse.

It's not just French fries.  It's cooking with any vegetable or canola oil.  Which, i mean shit, you use oil of some kind to cook pretty much everything.  (Or at least I do... i tend to go Olive though.)

Trans fat kills more people than guns... so ban the trans fat....
