Forums - Microsoft - Microsoft "Forza 5 wouldn't have been 1080p, 60fps without access to Xbox One's cloud"

Apparently the cloud didn't free up that much time that they could come up with more then 14 tracks in 3 years.
I guess that's the downside of putting your online network coders on graphics and track building...

exactly. i guess im not the only one who saw a flaw in their explaination.

Lol. Forza5 is a launch game to show off the XBox One capabilities. MS probably forked over $100mio for the game. That is basically lost money. And MS wants that money back, one way or the other.

The other way is pretty obvious. Of course, your tracks and cars already exist. For only $9.99 a month you will be able to get them piece by piece. For only $19.99, you will be able to acquire that extra "Ferrari"-achievement. For only $29.99, you will be able to ge the "Special-Ferrari(slight damage)-achievement". See how it runs?

does that mean if youre not connected to the cloud you wont get 1080p 60 frames? or is it just bulls**t?

While I think the benefit of the 'cloud' is minimal at best right now, this has been a concern of mine as well.  Do we now have a sliding scale of performance depending on your bandwidth or lack thereof?

The other question is, how could they possibly be struggling with the 1080/60 benchmark, when PC's have been doing it with less for years now.  I'm not turning this into some PC/Console debate, I'm simply referring to the resources and hardware available then.  Consoles are supposed to be more resource efficient without a bloated OS, and background apps to allocate resources to.  We're talking 8 core processors, 8g of RAM, and a newer GPU, how is this even a struggle?

Time saved creating online features has been spent on visuals and physics

i dont know much about game development, but it doesnt seem to me, that the guys working on online features would be the same ones doing visuals and physics.

he could work on something else. or he wouldn't even exist. the money they'd save on him would be for another specialized developer.

how hard to understand is this?

because it doesnt seem like the people who do online infastructure, would do or know how to do graphics and physics. it seems like there are different people used for different tasks.

Haven't you heard??? Every Turn 10 employee is so capable that they can perform any role within the company... and they are so good that they can pump one game every two years while Polyphony can just make a GT every 3 to 5 years...

Azzanation: "PS5 wouldn't sold out at launch without scalpers."

This sounds like pure BS. So are they saying that the game will be less than 1080p and 60 FPS when offline? Or perhaps the physics will be wonky and the AI will become dumb?

All this cloud is doing is allowing for you to essentially download ghost data which they've given the fancy name of "Drivatar". Well guess what, that stuff has already been done ages ago...in Mario Kart no less.
