Forums - Sales - PS2 sold more than 158.6M lifetime

You're forgeting that the DS was the most pirated console in the history of videogames because of the r4 flashcart! That is why DS software sales are lower. Nintendo still have the best first party franchises, everyone else relies too much on third party support.

Someone said the Ds only sold 30,000 July to September, care to explain why VGChartz quotes ~10000 per week?! The DS is not dead.

I don't know any person that bought original PS2 games. Everyone I knew pirated them. Piracy was so bad with the PS2.

Edit: Same with the PS1 I don't know anyone that bought original games.

That is true. But the PS2 still managed to sell a ginormous amount of software.

I'm pretty sure PS2 piracy wasn't as bad as DS. The DS had the R4 which could hold dozens of games and that was actually sold in gamestops.

It was worse. There were shops modding the PS2s is Australia. A lot of the Asian and African countries would pirate every single game.

Plus, piracy was worse on the PSP than the DS.

I can't say for sure which one was worse, but the point is piracy is a moot point since both suffered a lot from it. I'm not exaggerating by saying that I don't know anyone that bought original games btw.

I question how accurate those sales numbers are.  The PS2 while only selling a few million more units than the DS sold more than twice as many units in the "Rest of World" catagory.  How reliable are sales numbers from those regions?  Otherwise, the DS had it beat in North America and Japan.

Stop hating and start playing.

Yes, but the DS wasn't a home console. You can't compare sales of two different markets. It's like comparing car and motorcycle sales.

Doesn't matter. The DS could have sold 300 million, and the PS2 would STILL be the #1 console of all time. Seperate markets, seperate sales.

As accurate as it can get. Sony knows how much they've shipped, after all. Also, that means that the DS only passed the PS2 in a handful of countries.
