Profits are not what defines "winning a generation" in the gaming industry. It's how many units you push. Period.

But we're talking about winning the "console war", which is ultimately about profits

~~~~ Mario Kart 8 drove far past my expectations! Never again will I doubt the wheels of a Monster Franchise! :0 ~~~~
I got like 4 sentences into the article.
Someone should tell them the PS3 was on pace to outsell the 360 since day one.
These kinds of distractions are what invigorates the games industry....and also is ruining it.
Well, in terms of HD i agree, but in terms of sales the Wii is still the winner.
R&D for the PS3 with Cell / BluRay was rather big and even without these costs included the PS3 lost 3 billion USD in 2008.
Feel free to show me when and where the Playstation 3 made those billions of USD back. Can't wait for this one. |
?? Your post is SONY as a company...not ps3........... Again, sony is a massive comglomerate, most of their losses are their other divisiomns. Nice try.
Sony started making money on PS3 in 2010.
herd that a million time but still, whatever the excuse, it still flopped before the end of the generation came.
im sure you dont expect the wii to run games at the same level as the ps360 and im sure you dont expect it to be running games like GTA, red dead or battlefield at all. I know graphics are not everything but there comes a time where you have to look at the hardware and see what its maximum capability is. afterall thats why they released the wii U right?....which is still way underpowered compared to ps4/xb1
It invigorates me to hate my fellow gamers. And yes, its ruining the industry and the gaming community. We hardly ever get good thoughtful discussions going because people are too wrapped up in their own world of "my console won, your console sucks dong".
I don't know how anyone can determine if anyone actually "won", but you can make cases for each.
The Wii? Sold amazing up until 2010 or so, then it has been a non-factor and carried no momentum into their next launch. Even began discontinuing production while the other (2) consoles are still going. Due to those amazing 3-4 years it currently remains the leader in overall sales. Lasted ~7 years.
The PS3? It started off terrible, lost billions and took forever to catch up. By the time it's follow up console launched it was still selling 100k+ per week and carrying strong momentum into the launch of it's follow up console. Lasted 7 years and still going strong.
The XBox360? Started off well, then ran into very bad hardware issues like the RRoD, thus losing billions of dollars. By the time it's follow up console launched it was still ~100k per week and carrying strong momentum into the launch of it's follow up console. Lasted 8 years and still going strong.
In my opinion, in terms of games and staying power, I would easily give the nod to either the PS3 or the 360. This opinion becomes stronger the further out these (2) consoles go.
iPhone = Great gaming device. Don't agree? Who cares, because you're wrong.
