There will be a program to "rent" the games for a specific time (2 bucks for 24hours or so, if I remember correctly) and you will get to try every new sport for 24 hours free

It´s pretty cool actually

@OP: I'm still kind of on the fence about this. Part of me wants to wait for a full retail release with all five events.

Have they, in fact, said anything about including Resort games in the future? If so, It might take a long time to have all events in one single pack. Heck, it could have me end up paying more than once for the same thing. :(

This is the game they should have made first. Not Wii U party. This is the one that is going to get everyone to pick up a Wii U. It may not be as big as the original two, but it will still help a lot. Probably over 10 million in sales if not more if Casuals come to play.
