Just wondering, for platformers, would you recommend Tropical Freeze or Mario Bros U?

I played a bit of Mario U but never played a DKC game before...

There is absolutely nothing NSMBU does better than Tropical Freeze...

Have a nice day...

I feel a bit accomplished. I traded someone on Miiverse a nes remix code for a code for mario vs DK.

That's actually pretty good going. How is it?

Here lies the dearly departed Nintendomination Thread.

The only news worthy article!

Next Level Games "might" be working on a Wii U game...

Sweet! I wouldn't mind a Luig Mansion 3 or another Mario Strikers on the Wii U!

Another Splatoon Amiibo rumour:

http://www.gonintendo.com/s/248598-rumor-south-america-retailer-points-to-more-pokemon-amiibo-splatoon-amiibo-as-well-update

Calling it now, that date, May 29th, will be correct. Nintendo always make us wait, if they say May, it'll be right at the end of May, like MK8 was... XD

How was DKC: TF lackluster? There were some butthurt reviewers that scored it lower just because it was a 2D game/not Metroid and that dragged the score down. Despite all that it still has 83% on metacritic with a userscore of 8.9 (as high as Prime 2 and 3 and higher than DKC: R). You probably never even played it. Most people prefer DKC: TF over Rayman Legends (which somehow has over 90% on metacritic). Rayman Legends has a userscore of "only" 8.5.

DKC: TF!

It's harder though. :p

It was my first DKC as well. My first playthrough was a bit frustrating, but I mastered the game and it's my favorite game on the Wii U.

I really don't buy that Retro Studios is this brilliant studio that people talk about on these forums. Their last game was lackluster, and the only thing of real note that they ever developed was Metroid Prime, and that was like 15 years ago. 15 years in videogame years is 3 generations, it's not like that team and their skill still exists.

A few things wrong here.

Their last game wasn't lackluster.

Define "thing of note", because the other two prime games were masterpieces, and the revival of DK was a huge deal.

These are opinions, and there's nothing wrong with holding an opinion. The only thing wrong is saying Retro has mutliple masterpieces when by the very nature of the word masterpiece, there can be only one; i.e. Leonardo's Mona Lisa is his masterpiece.

Although speaking from what I played, there was nothing spectacular about Metroid Prime 2 or 3, they were both virtually the same thing as the first game with some additions, but also lower quality gameplay, less interesting content, and overall boring design. The heavy controlling Retro DKC games struggle to even approach meeting the slick standard of 16-bit platformers released 20 years ago.

Since 2007, consider we're in 2015 now, Retro has only released two DKC platformers, neither of which were anywhere near as exciting as when the original DKC trilogy was released.

I just don't see what is so brilliant about this studio that in 17 years has released 2 different games with 3 uncreative sequels that were not nearly as well received as the originals.

MP2 and 3 virtually the same? Why don't you just say you never played them. The gameplay quality is higher btw, people just call the first one the best because it came first. Sanctuary Fortress is boring design now? Lmao. Much better than the generic ice area and generic ruins area. Compare the Valhalla in Prime 3 with the Orpheon in Prime 1. Or the crater in Prime 1 with Phaaze in Prime 3. How has Prime 3 more boring design than Prime 1?

If there can only be one masterpiece then why are you complaining about them having only one lol?

And again, the new DKC games shit all over the original trilogy.

How about you stop automatically saying the first game in a particular franchise is always the best? OoT fans are already annoying enough. I'll gladly play TF over the old DKC games.

DKCR outsold two of the 3 SNES DKC games.

And the other one was heavily bundled.

I would say they're just shit, honestly. The original had amazing controls, and the latest two just simply do not. Then there's the level design, which is lacking the polish of the original games. The original games were also the most visually impressive games of their time, Retro not only failed to achieve something similar, but didn't even come close.

The original trilogy was revolutionary, and changed the directionof the 16-bit generation both winning it for Nintendo and extending it two years further than it otherwise would have lasted. Also influencing the way many games were developed during the 32-bit era. Retro's DKC games influenced nothing.
