I find it hard to believe that Microsoft is having trouble keeping up with demand, especially now that people are cancelling their pre-orders. 720p, anyone?

Gonna go ahead and assume sarcasm on this one.

The broad demographic of consumers are 100% oblivious to these kinds of things. In fact a huge chunk of those interested in PS4 are 100% unaware they have to pay for online on the console.

Same with X1 and the weaker ports. The things that are discussed heavily in forum wars will have little to no bearing on hardware sales. Marketing, exclusive titles, and price will have far more impact than silly resolution wars 95% of the demographic couldnt care about.

I am going to disagree with you and say that anyone pre-ordering or buying a PS4 or XB1 at or soon after the launch date is very intuned and informed with everything regarding that console.  These are not the casual wii type consoles that causes the casuals confusion. These are so called "hard-core" consoles for core gamers.

There are unlikely to be grannies in the queue waiting for a PS4.. unless someone else ask them to. Casuals don't care about getting a PS4 at launch.

To play what? Sony Sing song party?

Yes there will be "confused" buyers but not as many as you think on the these so-called "gamer" consoles.

Are you standing in stores taking pre orders talking to consumers and taking their pre orders? No? I am.

What i posted isnt my opinion its a fact. Most honestly dont care but your average consumer litteraly look nothing like the people who post on forums. And the belief only core gamers pre order consoles is an absolute myth.

completely anacdotal evidence, but the marines in my class have been talking about the next gen systems and what systems they want to get.

and they still think and say things like,

"the xbox has dumb policies, no used games, and you have to be online all the time"

and my favorite, "i just heard the PS4 games are 1080, and xbox only does 960" where he got 960 from, i dont know, lol. but the point is it just goes to show how ignorant people can hear fleeting comments, and cling to them.

yup, I still hear people clinging to that early gossip as well. If anyone buys a game based on something they heard but don't understand, they either gat mony ta burn or they are just............you know

Do you know anything about what the margin of availability is? Like is ps4 going to have a much larger amount of product available at launch? I know most analysts predict about even sales initially, but some employees at stores are saying that they will have more ps4s by more than a 2 to 1 margin.

I touched on this briefly. Currently Sony is in a better position allocation wise than MS. The 2 to 1 number whike once true really doesnt have bearing anymore. MS have been aggresive in adding new consoles for pre order. That being said they still trail Sony.

A year ago if someone had said Sony would be leading at all for a US launch they would of been laughed out of the forums, how quickly things can change.

If you see both sides of the war on this site listening to someone sharing info and being respectful about what he says, You should probably learn to listen. Hes the sites resident GS insider. GS has a large enough market share to generally reflect the over all market. will it be exact? no, but it is essentially a massive poll that you need to pay to vote.

Screw someone halfways important with real information.

When I'm watching a youtube video from my favorite Sony Let's Play, on the ps4 release for the 30th time, I see it has it has 10 million views.  The XBox One video from that same poster that I haven't watched only has 1 million views.  This PROVES that PS4 is 10x more popular and will sell 10x more.  Screw gamestop.  I'm all wise an knowing.

Oh and also I typed PS4 and XBox in amazon and this also makes me an expert.

Is that sarcasm? Cause you said you looked at it for the 30th time yourself. I hope it is lol

Yea I was making fun of the people who were trying to say that the OP isn't a good representation of market and other stuff, when they have absolutely zero facts going for them.  They base their sales numbers on where some console is on amazon's list, what they saw on twitter such as fake xbox one pre-order peopel cancelling their pre-orders, how many hits a youtube video has, ect.

I don't know, I'm more interested in the months following the Holiday season. Launches are the honeymoon stage.

Bet between Slimbeast and Arius Dion about Wii sales 2009:

If the Wii sells less than 20 million in 2009 (as defined by VGC sales between week ending 3d Jan 2009 to week ending 4th Jan 2010) Slimebeast wins and get to control Arius Dion's sig for 1 month.

If the Wii sells more than 20 million in 2009 (as defined above) Arius Dion wins and gets to control Slimebeast's sig for 1 month.

No I don't. I couldn't work in a shop, not that good with people.

But believe it or not someone who actually do work in a shop taking orders, talking about consoles and selling consoles is sitting and stuffing his face full of chips opposite me. It's my housemate.. or rather the guy that rents a room in my house. I know you probably think I am making this up but...honest.

Maybe it's different in the UK. That's it. Maybe it's the people in the UK who are better informed. Maybe the people that go his shop are better informed. Maybe the people that go to yours are not.

Anyway as there is scientific way to prove either way I will go down the middle mix your experiences with his.

Edit: I am told to add that you can't take the account of one shop in one location and make it a global fact.  In your defense he had worked at a diffferent branch in a different town and the people knew jack. It is localized.

Honestly I never expected Sony to overtake Microsoft in North America. Achieving parity with them should be the goal as other regions will favor them. If Sony can even achieve 1.1 to 1 ratio in North America they should be very happy. Great to hear there is enthusiasm for an industry which has been a bit of gloom for years now. I am happy to see it, but cautious as to how 2015 and beyond play out.

I checked the list of biggest retails games in US.

  • Walmart
  • Bestbuy
  • Gamestop / EB Games
  • Target
  • Circuit City
  • Amazon
  • eBay
  • Toys "R" Us
  • Blockbuster

That's was 2008... I'm trying to search something more recent.

who you? pull number from butt? no one know preorders totals except sony/ms

He works at gamestop i believe and has access to the companies internal numbers.

work gamestop know only gamestop yet pretend to know all number? this stupid. he say about only gamestop not every else. he lie about know total expect parity at all retail so dumb no logic

Im pretty sure gamestop (the largest game retailer in america) has enough data that it can be assumed to reflect the market as whole, scientifically speaking plus or minus a few points.

So far from the truth.

Check out MyAnimeList and my Game Collection. Owner of the 5 millionth post.

I won't assume anything, it will all be here soon enough. Keep the battle going i guess...

I think people fear more the time after the first months. Will the mass market also care so much about next gen or is it "only" maybe 20 million hardcore fans of whom most want a new gen so badly because the current is already so old. That will be interesting to see. I think most already know that first shipments will probably sell out for both consoles.
