Forums - Nintendo - Wii Fit U question for those getting it! UPDATED

First impressions:

Looks slick, not too many new things though.

It automatically asks to import your user data (if you had it saved on the WiiU already) Somehow it lost some data during the transfer, some gaps in the older data (pre 2012), and it reset all counters and scores. Room for new high scores. You can let it take your picture now after every body test then watch a slideshow later. I guess useful if you want a time lapse of your facial hear growing...

Adding users is a bit more annoying. You have to add them in the WiiU menu first before they can be added in Wii Fit U. It seems that after that you can still switch on the fly from within the game, plus there is a multiplayer mode. (taking turns)

Nothing new in yoga and strength training.
New aerobics: Puzzle squash, rowing and a new variation of boxing and running.
New balance games: Trampoline target, Hosedown, Dessert course, Ultimate obstacle course, Core luge, Scuba search and climbing.
And there is a new dance category which looks like a bunch of stepping routines.

In a new personal trainer menu you can set a calorie goal and intensity to create a random set of routines.
For example for 1 chocolate bar (455 cal) you need 138 minutes of intense vigorous exercise, or 7 and a half hours of light yoga!

You can set up your own routines, view all kinds of stats and rankings and join a gym comminity, I guess to be compared to others. It just dumped a whole bunch of mii's in the wii fit plaze.

The fit meter can record every step you take during the day and also elevation changes which you can upload (infrared beam) to the WiiU. Then it can tell you how many times you have climbed the pyramids or if yoj have walked to moon yet. (Ok no moon but it did show the pyramids in the menu)

For that price is reasonable, owning the first wii fit games , having the same games, a bunch on new balance ones, hope for new strength ones but still for that price is a no-branier-isntant buy. Thanks for your impressions

On further inspection all other balance games and aerobics routines have an extra mode / another course added. Soccer where you have to duck under stuff too, ski jumping with cross wind, ski slalom course with snow men to avoid etc. So 3 or 4 courses per mini game.

Yeah for 20 dollars it's a no brainer. Dessert course suprisingly turns out to be the most fun. You have to hold out the gamepad in front of you as a a tray while stepping on the balance board to navigate through a room to deliver all kinds of unstable desserts as fast as possible.

Another big advantage is that you can now use a second wii mote+ instead of having to hook up the nun chuck for the games that need it (eg boxing, kung fu, climbing). No more cable in the way.

Routines have been downgraded with more garbage between exercises.

Think I'll give this version a miss. That way I can use my Wii U upstairs and keep the old Wii downstairs with the exercise mats. Wii Fit U doesn't add much besides social features and more tracking infoporn. Neither feature is valuable to me.

question: I recently moved and left my tv behind for the time being. I hooked my Wii U up to my PC monitor but I don't have any audio except the one from the gamepad or through headphones. The latter aren't really an option when exercising so can you change all audio output to come from the wii u gamepad?

Ongoing bet with think-man: He wins if MH4 releases in any shape or form on PSV in 2013, I win if it doesn't.

I don't know if you can change all of the audio, like during the menu once the game (for lack of a better word) is started, but you can definitely go Off-TV mode during the stuff you actually need audio for. The thing that sucks about it is that it puts a big gray box over most of the big screen display, making it harder to follow on your monitor (because it assumes you're using the GamePad screen w/ a stand).

Wii Fit is much cheaper, and sometimes more effective.

Yeah, I wouldn't give up my gym membership in place of Wii Fit, but the latter is an excellent supplement. The gym (sometimes) requires mustering up the energy to drive across town after a long day at work and competing with other people for equipment during peak hours, while Wii Fit doesn't have these issues. You can put in an hour of Wii Fit and get a great workout, or you can put in a quick 15 minutes for a shot of energy. And it's also quite an effective teacher if you're interested in getting into things like yoga and bodybuilding at a gym, but have no idea how to exercise effectively and what to do.

You do realize that you can work out outside of designated work out places right?  The fitness police aren't going to arrest you or anything.
