I imagine if you think about it hard enough, you'll realize that the reason why "biased" is allowed but "fanboy" isn't is because of connotation.

The word "bias" has a relatively neutral connotation. The word "fanboy" is quite negative and makes more assumptions than the word "bias" does.

Depends on how you say it which is why i said make a judgement call.  It is pretty obvious when somebody is using the word bias as a synonym to fanboy but because people can get away with it they do as you can with many rules right now.

The truth is, people who want to get around the rule book can do so easily.  VGC creates a smarter version of a troll

Honestly, it still doesn't matter.  The whole point of not allowing the word "fanboy" is because the word itself is the problem.  People don't like being called fanboys.  While people don't like being called "biased" either, there really isn't a way to get the word "bias" to get the same reaction as "fanboy" unless it has become personal between the user and yourself.

As you said people dont like being called biased either.  Both are inflammatory.  It is like calling someone stupid.  Bannable but calling someone retarted is a worst way of saying it.  Both are bannable though.

It's not really the same thing as "stupid" or "retarded" at all.  If I say you are biased towards X company, whether it's true or not, is still not even close to being the same as calling someone an X company fanboy.  You would have to delve real far into the description for the word "biased" to become an equivalent.

Bias = neutral

Stupid = negative

Retarded = slur

Also, people don't like being called biased not because the word is offensive, but because people want to act like they are being objective.  It's quite different than what you're referring to.

i dont know about that.  I disagree but you are looking at it differently than i am so that is ok.  I believe it should have a judgement rule personally but some people may disagree with me like you do which is fine.

Also i appreciate the feedback :)

Everyone is biased. No one is truly neutral. Fanboy however is a particularly fanatical and one eyed sort of bias. So to call someone biases is merely stating a fact, though contextually it might be more or less accurate. Calling someone a fanboy is pretty much always insulting and flamebait.

Im going to use this as an example http://gamrconnect.vgchartz.com/post.php?id=5753523

In this post particularly he resorts into calling someone biased simply because he didnt believe the way he did.  Was it really called for?  Was there any reason to say that?  What did it establish?  And can he prove what he said?

Like the word fanboy, if you use it in the right context it is allowed.

This is prime example of what I like to call the "biased trumph card" that people use when they cannot win an argument with a factural information. Here you basically have two people aruging over who has better makerting for the two consoles coming out soon. First guy says "Sony is the king of makerting since back in 90's", and then the second guys " ad populi agrument on the net says Mircosoft is better at makerting". First guy has no good argument to make to him so he just throws out the biased card and thinks that he wins because that trumphs every other arugment out there. Plus, to top it off he throws out old "everyone and their little brother" line and adds Kevin Butler to the mix lol.

Everyone on this site and every gamer for that matter is biased towards one companyconsole or another, all you need do is look at their posts or signature. Its just a question of how biased a gamer is and to tell this apart we have words like fanboy to describe the varying levels. Its just that the word fanboy has become game world equivalent of "insert racial slur here".

So then they could ban people just because they do not like them while allowing the people they do like to use it whenever they want. Sounds pretty biased to me.

Technically most rules are judgement calls right now.  So couldn't they already do that?

In fact some users actually have mod protection right now like Rol for example.

Yeah and I really think that needs to change. I say someone is acting childish I get banned. Another user says I am stupid and nothing happens to them except I get banned for replying to them in the same manner they didnt get banned for.

Then I got banned the other day because some people called me biased and I stated my opinion without insulting anyone or any company. I was banned but then unbanned. I just came to the site and was logged out but when I logged in I didnt get the banned message. Then another time I got banned for saying I thought Nintendo had a better E3 and the mod called it extreme trolling with no basis in reality. Like to them it was impossible for Sony to not win E3 and anyone that thought differently had no right to post here cause they were trolling.

I wasnt trying to call you out in my other post. Just trying to show how leaving it up to opinion can be a bad thing,

I think we need set rules and a group of people to review any bans made by mods to see if there is actually any merit. A citizens review board so to speak.

Lmao I'm sorry let me refresh your memory on that one: http://gamrconnect.vgchartz.com/post.php?id=5459877

They really put Sony to shame, Its not wonder Sony copies everything they do even resorting to making their new console look

like a Chinese Wii clone knock off. It might fool some people into buying PS4 but when they get home and see they have to pay

even more and wont get access to Nintendo quality games but Sony clones they will be very upset. Between my Wii U and PC I

will have access to any game I want, especially when the PS4 emulator is out. Sony got lucky with the PS1 and PS2 due to the

market wanting them there but since the release of the PS2 it has become clear their dominance was shear dumb luck and they

will never repeat it. I look forward to the day they go 3rd party and that wont be long into this gen considering they've made less

money than Sega as a console maker and Sega never dominated like Sony did.

User was warned for this post - Kantor

Mods usually talk to each other when they ban people, and I can assure you every single mod on this site would have banned you for that.

in your example, both ppl are biased, but one is a hypocrite.  The closest you will ever come to not being biased is impartiality.  That is, to have no stake in either outcome.  Jay no offense, you are biased and you want rules that protect you.  i compliment your effort to try to be impartial.  Just dont let it blind you from the truth (that everyone prefers one thing over another, automatically based on past xp, we can change but we start with a predisposition)

No offense taken.  Im asking because i dont see why one is allowed but not the other though.  It actually has been a while since anybody has called me biased (unless im forgetting) so this isnt really about me.

if this rule passed it would protect the feelings of those who care about their image of impartiality.

Its the same as the difference between "a fan" and "a fanboy". I respect a rational fan, the latter though irritates me to no end, especially those Sony and Microsoft fanboys bickering back and forth making duplicate threads to bash each others.

From what I can see you are an xbox fan, but also seems to a rational one and I respect that. (Just from what I've observed casually, I could be wrong)
