Forums - Microsoft - Crytek’s CEO Explains Why Ryse Runs at 30 FPS, Details Usage of Xbox One’s ESRAM for “Considerable Speed-up”

For crying out loud, when will people stop comparing game fps with film...next time you open your mouth Cevat, do some research and learn about shutter and shutter angle in film camera.

That said, 30fps is quite enough for that type of game, but guy never stops to amaze me.....facepalm, just pure and simple facepalm material right there.

You would've thought after the limitations of only 10MB EDRAM on the 360 MS would've learnt their lesson and put in enough ESRAM to afford a 1080p res with all the bells and whistles. But I have also read the Xbone has a very good scaler which upscales to 1080p quite nicely and it also has a seperate display plane for the HUD and apps which can always be 1080p.

Well now you enter in the physical production of the chip... Xbone already have a huge chip expensive and difficult to produce (at least more than the PS4 chip)... so more 32MB of eSRAM? I don't know... I think it is inviable in terms of $$$ for a company.

The scaler seems really good... the 360 was good too so I expect an impoved scaler this time.

excuses and more excuses, watching a game running 60 frames is a joy for the eyes, he just justifying the xbox one that it looks is not capable of handling that framerate.

Is somehow contradictory on when it says:

"we wanted to go for a very emotional experience with complex and dramatic lighting, high fidelity environments, and rich characters and character animations. So 30fps was our choice, and we believe that most developers will go for richer worlds at 30 frames per second rather than 60fps – which would call for compromises, as 60fps demands twice the amount of compute rendering speed."

So they choose 30 fps because they want to ? or 60fps demands twice the amount of compute rendering speed. ?

ok then so why the game cant be  native 1080p ? they choose 900p instead 1080p because is better ?

This just looks like his justifying the incapacity of certain things the xbone can't perform.

Basically, miscrosoft edited their statement to make them look better. Anyone who plays games know 60fps looks better in almost every game. But they wanted good visuals, so that's what they went for.

You really see how the developers that make the exclusive games for X1 know how to use the system. Ryse is so beautiful that it is hard to look away :).

Game still looks fun to me. I would be getting it if I was getting an X1.

60fps isn't really that important unless you are playing a twitch FPS, a racing game or a fighting game where every millisecond counts. Most cinematic action/adventure/RPGs run at 30fps, and that's perfectly fine as long as there aren't any noticeable slowdowns or hiccups.

You know I was always wondering why no one ever used the dollar sign for $ony, but then I realized they have no money so it would be pointless.

Sounds good. Crytek know what they are doing, and they recoded this for Xbox One in seriously record time. Wasnt it Crytek tat said they got the development stuff for Xbox One really late?

Anyways, Cant wait for their 2nd Ryse game, where they can optimize the code an undoubtedly deliver 108p native with MSAA.

Go Crytek, Ryse looks awesome for a launch game. Well done with the time frame youve had.

Imo, this is a make or break moment for Crytek in terms of actually making games that are great beyond the graphics. I'm sure Ryse looks great, as Crysis 1-3 did, but I question their ability to make games that belong with the big boys in terms of everything else. So, I will be watching the outcome here closely, hoping that they've managed to make something with more substance.

Well, tbh, FarCry 1 (PC) was really great in both gfx and gameplay department. But, it is downhill for them ever since when it comes to gameplay.

Agreed, this time they are stepping out of their comfort zone andmust focus more on the gameplay side of things. Here´s hoping they achieve what they aimed for, a really good quality TP hack-n-slash.

I'm disappointed, but in all honesty 60FPS is still still slow to me - where I see the still frames sometimes.

The comparison with film isn't really fair - as they way they work and they way we seem them is different.

A 60 FPS movie looks much nicer than a 60FPS TV.

Still, I'm jazzed for the game. Probably the first one I will get Next Gen.

Really not sure I see any point of Consol over PC's since Kinect, Wii and other alternative ways to play have been abandoned.
