Forums - Nintendo Discussion - The Wii has stop shipment production in Japan

This report is incorrect. The Wii is still going to be produce and sold in Japan and all other territories for years to come. Every Wii U sold has a full Wii system included with it. The Wii has not stopped at 100.1 million, every time a Wii U sells another Wii sells. It may not be sold as a stand alone unit any more but it is still sold. This is actually one of the great things about the Wii U, I am still catching up on my Wii games on my Wii U.

I like this idea. Ps1 sold 345mil. Ps2 sold 185milish.

The Game Cube was sold along with the Wii until Aug. 2011, before it was discontinued. So it just about lasted as long as the PS2. So that was about 5 years into the life of Wii. If we are lucky the Wii will continue to be sold with the Wii U for another 5 years.

What? Gamecube was discontinued in 2007 ...

At the rate Wii is falling (over 50% yoy most Quarters) I would expect a WW discontinuation to happen in early 2014, and early 2015 at the very latest.

I remeber back from my lurking days how people predicted Wii would outsell PS2 by the end of 2010...

Now its almost 2014 and Wii wont be able to outsell PS1. There is even a slight chance it will get outsold by PS3...talk about a massive, massive support drop by Nintendo

I think that the ps3 stopped having ps2 emulation around late 2008, i could be wrong. But yes absolutely the playstation has been a monster seller, and yes one way or another those systems are all still moving. Backwards compatible sure, some do it better than others. I was very happy with the gamecube that came with my wii and I am very happy with the Wii that has come with my Wii U. In fact the Wii is getting better with on the Wii U, I can now play Wii games on the small screen for example. Systems are reconfigured and boxed different all the time but they are still alive and selling until they actually stop selling them. For the gamecube that was 2011, for the Wii we will see.

I never said anything about it's image (i own one myself) but it was made almost 10 years ago believe it or not.

Farewell wii, the industry will aways hate you, even if it was you that make the industry grow up so much last gen.

whats sad is you cant accept people's opinions

It's the end of an Era. An epic Era full of memories...

Now they just need to get rid of the quickly dying dead DS.

Goodbye wii you were a great console for what u where

VITA 32 GIG CARD.250 GIG SLIM & 160 GIG PHAT PS3

It makes sense to stop shipment production in Japan since the Wii model they sell in Japan is the expensive original model with Gamecube support (and has a MSRP of 20,000¥JPY or about $200 USD).

Anyways the Wii had a good run in Japan and made some good coin, though the 3DS will pass it soon in hardware sales.
